Timecrimes (2007)

Héctor (Karra Elejalde) is renovating a new house which he has just bought with his wife. After some hard work it’s time to relax a bit in the garden. He sits down, takes out his binoculars and sees something strange happening in the bushes. He decides to investigate and with it start a journey which will surprise you. It’s an experience which you will remember for a long time.

Los cronocrímenes, as the movie is originally called, can be compared to a movie like Primer as this film also deals with time travelling, although this is just minutes instead of longer periods. Just like Primer you will also have a lot of questions about what happened. It is more accessible though as there is quite a lot of action and suspense. Héctor seems to be a witness to a crime and slowly he finds out the truth. To say much more about it would spoil the experiences and take away some surprises.

Time travel usually results in very hard to understand paradoxes, which is also the case here. Despite that though you will be glued to the screen while biting your nails as you are treated to film which has been very well shot and edited and where time (no pun intended) flies. A must see in my book!

    • I didn’t know anything about it either but read some interesting stuff about it on some forum, so of course I had to check it out. It was a nice surprise!

  1. i really enjoyed it. the blood stained head guy on the box and the trailer led me and a lot of people to wrongly assume it was a horror/slasher. i hope the american remake gets canned. although at least custard might wach it then!

    • That was my thought as well when I saw the box, but since I read some interesting stuff about it I decided to give it a go and I’m happy I did. A remake isn’t needed!
