The Many Faces of… Angelina Jolie

This week’s star of “The Many Faces of…” is Angelina Jolie. After all the men the last couple of weeks I thought it was time to put the spotlight on an actress. At a very young age, when she was 7, she acted in Lookin’ to Get Out together with her father Jon Voight. It wasn’t until the second part of the nineties that she began to make a name for herself earning an Oscar in 1999 for best actress in a supporting role (Girl, Interrupted). Once she did the Tomb Raider movies she became well-known and has been very succesful ever since doing both big action movies (Salt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Wanted) as well as more serious roles (Changeling, A Mighty Heart).

Looking at all the movies she has been in and being such a big action movie fan it wasn’t hard for me pick my favorite, which was her role in Salt. The part was originally written for Tom Cruise, but she showed that a woman can do the role just as well.

What is your favorite Angelina Jolie role?

    • Yes, I know you do and it’s nice to hear how much you enjoy this series. Already got the next two lined up and I’m not planning to stop it anytime soon!

I can understand and I’m not someone that goes out to see each movie she is in, but she is one of the highest paid actresses there is, so there are lots of people that do like her 🙂

  2. recently saw A Mighty Heart and was moved by her performance but one of the things I find about her is that she has become too big and I can’t seem to distance myself from looking at the screen and saying ‘thats Angelina Jolie’ and not the character she is playing. Well fit tho.

  3. I remembered her the most in ‘Girl, Interrupted’. Others are not marked much in mind, maybe ‘Tomb Raider’. Her voice is very sexy in Kung Fu Panda 2, but strangely she looked like a male tiger.

    • I never saw that but as she got an Oscar I guess I should watch it!

Never notice the actors in animation movies. Will pay attention when I see Kung Fu Panda 2

  4. I’m with Scott, great series but I’d perhaps spotlight someone like Kate Winslet or Cate Blanchett (which I did a while ago) before Jolie. Y’know, I used to like her a lot back in Tomb Raider days, but she was sooo irritating in The Tourist it practically derail the movie for me. I don’t know what my fave Jolie role would be, though I thought she was good in Beyond Borders.

    • I’m planning to do this series for a while, so these two are noted for a future one 🙂

Personally I’m not a big fan of her either, but looking at her popularity there are a lot of people who are…

  5. Hmmm… I did enjoy Tomb Raider. Thought she fitted the part very well. She was stunning in Girl, Interrupted. It’s a great film and her performance was spot on.

I’ve steered clear of more recent roles, though. Changeling and A Mighty Heart are on my lovefilm rental list so hopefully I’ll see them soon.

  7. I could have sworn i commented on this be before(Maybe its another Jolie related post i’m thinking of) but i personally love her. I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers aren’t big fans of hers, but i can’t help being consistently impressed by her performances. My favorite performance of hers is from the Good Shepherd. I think that is her most subtle performance to date.

With that said, i do feel her role choices are a bit…repetitive. For the most part they are either biopics/based on true story’s or action flicks. I would love to see her in something like Eyes Wide Shut or Dogville. Something by a auteur director basically.
