The Many Faces of… Natalie Portman

It’s Friday and you know what that means! The next installment of “The Many Faces of…” The choice for this week is Natalie Portman. Born in 1981, she had her first unforgettable role at age 13 in Léon. It has been the start of a very succesful acting career, resulting in an Oscar last year for her role as Nina Sayers in Black Swan.

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while you know how much I love Black Swan (it’s in my top 3 of all time favorite movies), so it’s no surprise that this is going to be my choice for her favorite role. I must say that I did think about her roles in both Léon and Garden State as she was very good in those as well.

What is your favorite Natalie Portman role?

    • Yeah, but there are a lot of actors where you sometimes wonder why they took that role. Haven’t seen all of her movies, but those I’ve seen her in she was good (although she didn’t have much presence in Thor)

  1. Funny thing is I didn’t really notice her in anything except Leon Star Wars and Black Swan. Everything else (inc V for Vendetta) just didn’t appeal to me!!

No doubt she is a great actor though!!

    Great series addition matey!

  2. My favorite Portman role is probably the one in Beautiful Girls from early in her career. Even at such a young age, she owned the screen. Shame so few people have seen it.

  3. I think my favorite roles of Natalie are ‘Black Swan’ and ‘Closer’. I feel they really showed her range as an actor because in both of those movies she is mentally damaged.

‘Black Swan’ also beat out ‘Social Network’ last year for my favorite film too.

  4. There’s something about her that I don’t like. I feel she’s not us down-to-earth as I would like her to be and it shines through in her roles. Black Swan was great though. Recently watched (or struggled through I might say) that one .. is it Friends with Benefits or is that the other one?Well, anyway the one with Ashton Kutcher. She was so unlikable and uncharismatic in that film .. She’s quite hit or miss for me tbh.

  5. Leon, Closer, Garden State and Black Swan are definitely my favourite performances of hers. I remember having a distinct crush on her while watching Garden State, probably why I like it so much. Without her, it would be a much less interesting movie.

    • She was very charming in Garden State, so I can totally understand that! Agree that the movie probably wouldn’t have worked as well has she not been attached to it.

  6. These segments are great! What a novel idea. I don’t know how I’ve missed it before.

Natalie Portman, one of my favorites and so gorgeous! My fav performances of hers? hmm, my fave 5 would be in Black Swan, V for Vendetta, No Strings Attached, Closer, and Cold Mountain!

    • Thanks, get a lot of nice reactions on these, so I’m planning to keep these up. The next ones are already lined up fir the coming fridays!

Can’t remember much of Cold Mountain and have not seen Closer or No Strings, so can’t comment on those. She is really one of the best actresses around at the moment in my opinion.

  8. Natalie’s impressed me since Leon/The Professional, though her roles after Black Swan aren’t impressive, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last great work from her. I think she’s excellent in V for Vendetta as well.

    • No, I’m sure she will play many great roles in the future. Haven’t watch V for Vendetta since it came out, but really need to watch it again as I thought it was an excellent film.
