Away We Go (2009)

Becoming parents is one of the big changes in your life and Burt (John Krasinski) and Verona (Maya Rudolph) are on the brink of experiencing it. Verona is six months pregnant and they are getting ready for it. They have moved near Burt’s parents and when they pay them a visit find out that they are planning to move to Belgium just before the baby is due. It’s a big shock for them and they decide there is no reason to stay where they are and search for a new place to settle.

Away We Go review

Away We Go is a road movie, but with an original premise. Where would you move if this siuation happened to you? They have no idea and therefore visit places where some old friends or colleagues live to see where they can settle down and create a new home.

If this all sounds very serious you’d be mistaken as this a comedy. In every town they visit the people they meet all seem to have their issues. The reaction of Burt and Verona to these situations makes it so enjoyable to watch. Krasinski and Rudolph really have chemistry.

Away We Go review

Away We Go is a feel good comedy with a real heart. It has a couple of nice cameos (Jeff Daniels, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Catherine O’Hara) and is just an enjoyable little movie that’s worth checking out.

  1. Nice review, Nostra. I saw this one in the theater and really enjoyed it. I think the cameos really help keep it fresh, plus it helps to have two very likable leads.

    • Thanks Eric, I hadn’t heard of this movie until it was mentioned on another blog and looked like one worth checking out. Everything just felt right about this movie.

  2. Saw this film a couple years back on TV – really enjoyed it. It was light but had some resonance with me at a few moments. Loved the cameos – as Eric said, it kept the film fresh. It’s a fun little film.

  3. My gut feeling when I saw Away We Go was that the soundtrack is brilliant, the movie was just ok. Agree with your rating of 7 . Maybe I should give it a second chance some day.

    • I don’t remember much of the soundtrack, but then I never pay much attention to music in movies… It’s not a movie I’ll be rewatching, but it was very enjoyable.
