The Many Faces of… Brad Pitt

An overview of the many roles of Brad Pitt

It’s that time of the week again when I take a look at the many roles of one actor, this week with Brad Pitt. Pitt was born in 1963. As he grew up he was always very active as he participated in various sports. Once he graduated high school he went to the University of Missour in 1982. He majored in journalism and was interested in advertising. Something which also interested him was acting and he left the university two week before graduation to move to Los Angeles. He had his first roles in 1987 and appeared in shows like Dallas and Growing Pains and 21 Jump Street. His first leading role was in the movie The Dark Side of the Sun in 1988, which wasn’t released until almost 10 years later. His breakthrough came when he appeared in Thelma and Louise in 1991. From this moment his career took off. He has been nominated for an Oscar several times, but has not won it yet.

Pitt has played some amazing roles and picking a favorite is difficult. He was great in Fight Club, Seven, 12 Monkeys, Burn After Reading and Snatch and I really can’t pick a favorite.

What is your favorite Brad Pitt role?

  1. For years Brad Pitt was just a beautiful face to me, the name of a poster the girls in school liked looking at on their walls and not that of a serious actor, but when you look at the sheer scope and strength of the mans work you realize just how wrong that assumption is. I don’t think that you could find a more daring or versatile actor out there for this column than this man and yet he could have so easily gotten along using only the one face and the effect that has on the sex that is fairer than some ( but not Brad himself).

as for a favorite? I guess I have to go with Jesse James, it’s so often Deakins and Dominick that get the credit for that masterful movie but Brad was just as essential to my mind.

    • Yeah, through the years he has proved his versatility.

I have to admit that I turned Jesse James off. Maybe I wasn’t in the right mood when I watched it, but nothing in the movie made sense to me. Really had no idea what was going on. Was it just me or do I need to rewatch it?

  2. Legend! True Romance’s stoner on the couch. Angry, impulsive Detective Mills in Seven. and the mighty Tyler Durden. So many great films and roles. Can’t wait for World War Z!

    • Yeah, that True Romance bit is so funny 🙂 Have not heard nothing about World War Z yet (but then I never read anything about upcoming movies), but since he’s in it, I do want to check it out!

  3. I remember when Brad Pitt was just a pretty face to look at, but look at him now. He’s a very well respected actor. And he hasn’t lost his looks.

He’s got a knack of being in heavyweight yet not getting too much flack for doing light hearted stuff like Mr and Mrs Smith.

Finding it hard to pick out one role of his I really enjoyed, but think I’ll go for Tyler Durden in Fight Club. I think that’s when I really, properly noticed him.

    • No, he hasn’t lost his looks, although I did think his skin looked a bit weird in Moneyball and made me wonder if he had used something like botox.

Good point that he can basically do any type of role without losing credibility.

  4. d’yas like dags?

    WHat?

    dags? cha like Dags?

    OOOOH DOGS!!

I still use the SNATCH Irish accent as my standard Irish accent impression… I am rubbish at it but it is all thanks to Mr Pitt!!

  5. as soon as I saw this post I thought: Fight Club!

and, as I’m trying to think of any other role that he did that I like better…I still have to go right back to Fight Club. Yep, that’s the one.

but perhaps I’ve said too much. (sorry, I’m not supposed to talk about it. shhh.) ha

  6. I don’t know if I have a favorite. Probably Fight Club. But he looked pretty weird (it’s strange because he always looked stunning) in Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

  7. Fight Club !
but i also loved His performance as Jesse James, His delivered such a quietly lived-in, exquisite character study of Jesse James formed almost entirely out of reactionary, introspective moments

  8. Now this is an actor that has definitely changed his look many different times and, I would say, he seems to get better and better every year.

Of all of his big films, the only one I have yet to see, even though it is in my queue patiently waiting, is Snatch. Out of all the other ones, I think it would be very difficult for me to pick a favorite role as I have enjoyed many. If it is purely based on the craftmanship of his performance I would have to ratify what I have already said before: the best, most nuanced, restrained and inspired performance of his career was in Moneyball this past year. Closely followed by his roles in Inglorious Basterds, Fight Club and 12 Monkeys.

    • You still have to see Snatch? Wow, I think that is going to be one you will really going to enjoy. Really a movie I wish to experience for the first time again. It is so funny and enjoyable and I’ve seen it many times.
