The Monday Question: Time!

This weekend the clock moved ahead an hour over here, so the weekend was a bit shorter as normal. This got me thinking about time. No, no questions about time travel movies (most will agree that Back to the Future is the favorite one), but I do have a question about time:
On average, how much time do you spend on movies each week (watching/talking/blogging)?

I keep close track of my movie watching and looking at my statistics, the last three months I’ve spent an average of 2716 minutes (equals 45 hours) watching them. Which is almost a movie a day. Luckily I watch a lot of my movies on the go, else I wouldn’t be able to spend time with the family in the evenings. As for blogging….as you know during the week I try to have at least one blog post a day and usually spend my Sunday evening preparing everything for the coming week. The only post which takes a bit more time is the Friday “Many Faces of…” posts as I ususally spend about an hour/hour and a half getting all the pictures together.
So I guess in total I probably spend 20 hours a week on movies and blogging about them.

  1. I’ve been watching an average of 10 movies a week lately. If the average movie is 2 hours long, that means I spend…almost a day a week watching movies. I hadn’t really put much thought into it before now!

    • That is quite a lot. I’m pretty sure if I was living by myself I would watch a whole lot more as I’m not too fond of watching television, but since the rest of the household I have no other choice to join them πŸ˜‰

  2. hmmm interesting Nostra…

I reckon I watch around 5-10 films a week ( a little more in winter, a little less in summer)

But blogging and writing about them is probably more than it should be. I spend a lot of my working day (don’t tell me boss) writing blog articles, reading other sites, researching, and so on.

Probably 30 hours a week. A full time job huh?

So all in all around 40 hrs a week spent doing something towards Movies. And yet I still know very little about film. LOL

    • Impressive numbers Scott. I forgot adding time reading and responding to other blogs as well, so that probably adds a couple of hours to my total. Don’t worry I won’t tell your boss πŸ˜‰

  3. All I know is it’s a fair bit! I watch about 4 films a week. Not much by hardcore movie blogger standards, but it’s about all I can fit in because of the amount of TV I watch too! Then there’s writing up those films on my blog.

But most of my film talking time is probably spent on twitter and reading and commenting on everyone else’s flim blogs out there. This is a daily thing, any time I have a little downtime at work, in the evenings. It’s part of my daily routine.

    • Like I told Scott, I forgot to factor in my other movie blog reading and responding, so my total probably is higher. It’s a nice hobby though, isn’t it?

  4. Probably 5 or 6 films a week (10-12 hours). Plus probably nearly an hour a day reading other peoples blogs (7 hours) plus at least 5 hours blogging myself plus I teach film studies 3 hours a week plus I spend about 10-15 hours a week reading and writing for my phd in film. So it’s probably about 35 hours a week in total and most of the rest of the time, I’m thinking or talking about films! Good question! I need to start watching more movies ‘on the go’!

    • I think if you are studying film you have to spend as much time on it as you can on them πŸ™‚
As I always take the train to work it gives me about an hour per day to watch movies. Don’t really mind having to stop a movie and watch it in bits as I can easily pick things up.

  5. I’m through the roof for the last three months. I’m Co-Chair of the Program Committee for an upcoming film festival so I have watched a lot of films, and I also attended nine films in the Miami International FIlm Festival.

  6. Well, I think I spend way more time blogging than watching movies, ahah. I blog at least 2-3 hrs on weekdays with one weekend day break. Sunday afternoon is the most time I spent blogging.

  7. Good question, Nostra. I usually watch 3-5 movies per week, and I spend most of my Saturday and/or Sunday mornings writing new posts for the upcoming few days. I don’t know how many hours that equates to, but it often feels like a full-time job. πŸ˜€

  8. This might be my favourite Monday Question that you’ve asked, Nostra. The reason is because I am amazed and intrigued by all the comments, they’ve highlighted that I have a long long way to go in my movie watching habits!

Due to work commitments I average 1-2 movies a week but blogging 5-10 hours a week on average I guess, been mostly weekends…

    • Week, everyone has their own schedule and the amount you watch really is something that doesn’t need comparing. It is interesting to see everyone’s habits though!
