The weekend is almost here, so you know it’s time for a new installment of this weekly series. The choice this week is South African actress Charlize Theron. She was born on the 7th of August 1975 in Benoni (near Johannesburg), South Africa. Her father was an alcoholic who one day attacked her mother, who shot him in self defense. She went to a boarding school and studied at the National School of the Arts. When she was 16 she did modelling for a year after she and her mother moved to the US. She went to the Joffrey Ballet School in New York, but she had to give up that career because of a knee injury. She moved to L.A. to pursue acting. In 1995 she had landed her first role in Children of the Corn 3. She slowly started to appear in bigger movies eventually leading to her Oscar winning performance in 2003’s Monster. She also got an Oscar nomination for her role in North Country.
What’s your favorite Chalize Theron role?
LOVE Charlize. What happened about her dad is so tragic. Glad she’s able to overcome such adversity and becomes one of Hollywood’s most successful actresses. I still don’t know what my fave role of hers is yet though.
I didn’t know that about her dad till I read it for this post. She has been very successful though despite her dark past.
I know it’s recent, but my favorite role from her is probably Young Adult. Loved the movie, and she was a huge reason why.
Although I didn’t enjoy the movie I have to agree she was great in it.
Monster without doubt. Never seen anything like it. Perfect!
Read Ebert said it was one of the best performances ever, so I will still need to check it out.
I know i’ve definitely not seen some of her biggest roles but really enjoyed her in Snow White this year and adored her in Arrested Development. She’s an actress I can get behind.

Wonderful actress, I’d give her Oscar also for North Country what a fierce performance. She was amazing in Young Adult too and Monster is just terrific work. I love watching her on screen, I’d see every movie if she was in it.

She continue to impress me now after Snow White, but not surprised with her role in Prometheus. I guess painful childhood makes up for her success now? Great pick, Nostra.

Being one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood now, Charlize is indeed many-faced career wise. It also makes me realize that I have to see more movies with her.
Hands down, her best performance is in Monster — I have no idea how she did, but if I’d choose my favorite part, my answer would be Ravenna in Snow White.
I will try to see Monster soon, but I also want to watch the documentary about the woman the movie is based on.

While filming Æon Flux in Berlin, Germany, Theron suffered a herniated disc in her neck, caused by a fall while filming a series of back handsprings. This required her to wear a neck brace for a month.;
