Crowdsourcing an interview with Paul Verhoeven

On Monday I will be seeing the press screening of the new movie Tricked, which has been directed by Paul Verhoeven. The plot for the movie is:

During his 50th birthday party thrown by his wife, Remco’s life takes a turn for the worse. His business partners are scheming behind his back to plan a takeover and his former mistress shows up pregnant

The movie has been made as a crowdsourced (or user generated) project where people could help write te script or vote on what should happen next. Afterwards I will be interviewing Verhoeven and have been allotted 5 minutes. I thought it would be a cool idea to partly crowdsource the interview as well.

So please leave the question(s) you would like to ask him in the comments and I’ll see if I can incorporate them in the interview.

  1. I would love it if you asked him if he’s a member of the Academy for the Oscars. He’s someone who I assume would be, but I haven’t been able to find any documentation. Asking him who he voted for is usually off limits, but if he has any thoughts on the process that would be great.

  2. This is awesome Nostra! I just realized he’s from Amsterdam originally. Well, my hubby has a question in relation to Robocop. If he were to do the remake of one of his most famous film, what would he do?

I’m curious as the current remake has been panned by people, from the costume, etc. and it’s not even out yet!

    • I’ve received some more questions about remakes through the mail and will ask him what his opinion is about remakes of his movies and if he would like to be involved in one.

  3. I absolutely love Paul Verhoeven but gosh darnit I can’t think of a question. I do know that his second film, the absolutely fantastic Turkish Delight (1973), was voted Greatest Dutch Film of the 20th Century in 1999, so I do wonder how he feels about having one of his earliest films receive such a marvellous award. It’s a bit of a strange question and you don’t have to ask him it, but I felt like sharing that. What a great filmmaker, it will be amazing for you getting to meet him.

    • Turkish Delight has a couple of memorable scenes and it’s been way too long since I last saw it. I’m looking forward to meeting him as well, he’s such an amazing director with a lot of impressive movies to his name.

  4. I can’t think of a good question, but that’s awesome that you will be able to sit down with him for an interview! His crowd sourcing idea is really intriguing, too.

  5. I love Paul Verhoeven films!

Ask him what he thinks about the new RoboCop. Have a pic of the new one ready if he hasn’t seen it πŸ˜€

Tell him to make more fantastic films like Total Recall, Starship Troopers and Robocop πŸ˜€

  6. I’d like to know how much truth is in reports that he became the first nominee ever to actually show up at the Razzie Awards, and that he personally accepted his Worst Director “award” for “Showgirls”. He also accepted the Worst Picture award for that film. If this is true, what where his thoughts behind doing so? It sounds to me like he poked just as much fun at them as they do to filmmakers. Praise to him, if he did.

    • Good question, which I’ll group together with my question about the Oscars. If he’s part of the academy it be interesting to know what he thinks of them.

  7. A big moment in the blogosphere, and your life, to get to interview such a big name as Verhoeven. I hope you write about the experience here once it’s done!

    • I have already written the article, but his assistant wanted to do a quick check on it which I’m currently waiting on. The experience was a lot of fun and the minutes flew by. Originally had five minutes assigned but because I was together with someone from another site we ended up talking for almost fifteen minutes.
