The Many Faces of… Emile Hirsch

Overview pictures Emile Hirsch movies roles

This week I decided to take a look at the career of Emile Hirsch. Born on March 13, 1985 in Topanga, California he grew up in Los Angeles and Sante Fe. Thanks to his sister he got interested in acting and it was already at the age of 8 that he had his first role in Woodstock, Illinois. After that he started appearing in television shows (3rd Rock from the Sun, Early Edition, Two of a Kind, Promised Land) and TV movies. After playing a role in NYPD Blue he started getting cast for more serious roles and he appeared in ER for two episodes. His first movie was The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. Other movies included The Girl Next Door, The Mudge Boy, Imaginary Heroes and Lords of Dogtown. Into the Wild is the movie where I first noticed him as it was an impressive movie, partly thanks to his acting. Other movies he has starred in include Speed Racer, Milk, Taking Woodstock, The Darkest Hour and Prince Avalanche.

  1. His best performance is definitely Into the Wild so far with Milk being a close second along with other great roles in The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, Imaginary Heroes and Killer Joe. I also liked Speed Racer which I thought was underrated.

  2. He was fantastic in Into the Wild. But he’s had a crazy mix of roles. And, like Steven, I’ve got a soft spot for Speed Racer – really enjoyed that film!

Also, he now looks like Jack Black. Well, he did in Prince Avalanche, and once I saw it, I couldn’t unsee it.

  3. Quite a surprise in last year’s Prince Avalanche, which actually made it in my top 10 of the year. He followed me on twitter once, than unfollowed me…it was the best of times…it was the worst of times =(

    • Prince Avalanche wasn’t my type of movie but I can understand people connecting with it. Wow, can imagine that seeing him suddenly unfollowing is a downer!

  4. Into the Wild but I will always have a place in my heart of his role In The Girl Next Door. I feel that movie was a real good look at teenagers also stars Paul Dano who I think you wrote a similar blog about a while ago. I wrote a new blog myself, check it out if you have a second. I would like to get your thoughts on it. Thanks!
