The Monday Question: Apps!

The Monday Question

Even though I didn’t really need it I recently decided to get myself a new phone, one which has been titled a “flagship killer”. The phone is made by Oneplus and the model is called One. Specs are impressive with a 5.5 inch screen, 3Gb of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and 64Gb of memory. Best thing of all that though is the price, which is only 299 euros. Since this is a new company which still has to ramp up production they introduced an invite system in order to get one and it took me a couple of nights of frequenting the forums to get my hands on one.

Last week I received the phone and have been quite happy with it during the last week. You get used to the size of the thing quickly and I already see some advantages of having this phone. The most important one is that I can now easily read and respond to your blog posts, something which was way too slow to do on my old phone (and therefore I never did). So you will be seeing me around commenting more than usual. I might do a separate article on the phone itself describing what I do and don’t like, but the question this week is not about this phone. It is about apps:

Which movie related apps you can’t do without (and would recommend to others)?

The ones I can’t do without are of course IMDB and a movie player like MX Player. Plus an app for the local cinema chain allowing me to quickly see what they are up to, plus of course a note taking app which I use regularly to already start writing my reviews if I have some time to kill on the go. I don’t use something like Evernote as it has way too much functionality I will never use, so ColorNote is all I need. Next to that I use Feedly for keeping up with the rss feeds of big movie sites and Podcast Addict to listen to my movie related podcasts from /Film, Filmjunk and Hollywood Babble On. If there is anything I should be trying out I am open to your suggestions.

  1. Ooo, that’s cool, Nostra! No doubt I could probably benefit from more movie apps, but I’m waiting to get the new iPhone 6 later this month so I can have more storage.

As for which apps I use, I love the Flixster app because it’s associated with Rotten Tomatoes, so not only can I look up theaters in my area with showtimes, but I also get to read critics’s reviews and notice how well movies are performing on Rotten Tomatoes.

I also have an app for a popular theater chain in my area. Depending on the type of theater you attend regularly, you might be able to find one.

Of course, I also use the WordPress app (since I have a WordPress site) and a FB Pages app to manage my FB page for AEOS. I find that one to be really nice!

Good luck with your new phone – looking forward to seeing you around more on the blogosphere!

    • So with the iPhone 6 now out have you already gotten it?

Will check out Flixster (although I doubt it will have local Dutch times for movies)

Have tried the WordPress app several times, but even though I can see comments it always gives me errors if I try to reply and those type of things.

Thanks, still think it is a great phone for the price and haven’t run into too many flaws

  2. It used to be the one and only IMDB app. But you know what? Google has totally killed that for me. Plus the app itself just got slower and more bogged down with ads as it developed. Google does it all for me! Don’t need no apps ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Yeah, I hate the ads in the IMDB app as well, there isn’t even a payed alternative for it. I’m not big on apps either as most work just as well with Chrome.
