Gone Girl (2014)

Review Gone Girl

One of the best directors currently has to be David Fincher. His resume is impressive with movies like Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the first two episodes of House of Cards. It is a director I always expect much from and he rarely disappoints. His movies have a distinct look and feel (especially since he made the moe to digital) and I couldn’t wait to see his latest, Gone Girl.

Review Gone Girl

It’s exactly five years since Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) has been married to Amy (Rosamund Pike). The two seem to be the perfect couple who try to do everything to prevent them facing the problems other married couples face. When Nick comes home after visiting his twin sister (Carrie Coon) Amy isn’t home. He sees sign of a break in and a struggle en calls the police. People come to help him and find her, but as time progresses questions are raised if he might know more about her disappearance.

Review Gone Girl

Fincher masterfully takes the viewer with him through the story and dripfeeds new information, making you wonder in which the story will develop. The result is a movie with a lot of surprisint moments. Because you don’t get enough information to solve it all you are constantly trying to figure out what is going on, jumping to conclusions based on the media, which plays an important role in the film. It is shown how they pick up the case, overanalyze everything and are not afraid to point fingers even if that might be premature. Both Affleck and Rosamund Pike are giving excellent performances, but also the supporting cast (including Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry) are great picks. With Gone Girl Fincher has again delivered a great film which plays with your emotions and which you won’t forget any time soon.

  1. Glad you love this too, Nostra! It’s really an awesome thriller, and I’m so impressed by Pike and it’s one of Affleck’s best performances in quite a while.

  2. Definitely one of the best movies of the year. I really love both of the main actors, and I think they carry the film, although the supporting actors certainly do their jobs well too. Great time to publish a review – it’s nice to read one a while after so many were popping up!

    • Yeah, sometimes I just wait with the reviews…like I’m also currently doing with Interstellar….it’s been an overload so I don’t want to ride the same wave 😉
