The Monday Question: Christmas movie!

The Monday Question

Only a couple of days and Christmas is upon us. I’ve done my last Christmas shopping this past weekend, so I’m ready to go. A big part for the movie lover are of course the Christmas films. The choice is staggering, but there are always those which stand out. The reason could be because of nostalgia or simply because of movie is good. This week’s question:

What are your favorite Christmas movies that you will be watching this week?

Although I don’t know which ones I’ll be watching exactly I always am tempted to watch either A Muppet Christmas Carol, Home Alone or Elf. All movies which the whole family will enjoy.

  1. LOL, I love Elf. Like, it’s such a perfect little movie…so richly humorous and clever despite being, well, kind of stupid.

But, Love Actually is always my choice when it comes to this question. I don’t gravitate towards Christmas movies. I don’t celebrate, so I couldn’t really care less, but I do love this time of year, and Love Actually is just such a beautifully woven movie that uses the spirit of the holiday to create rich themes.

    • Although I have seen that a couple of years ago because it got mentioned so much as a movie people watch during this period, I thought it was an alright movie but not one I felt to revisit in the future. Made me wonder if it is a nostalgic thing?

  2. ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’: Just for Boris Karloff’s narration!

‘White Christmas’ For the Crosby/Kaye dubbed duet of ‘Sisters’ and Kaye’s ‘Choreography’.

‘Fitzwilly’: One of the better Hollywood back lot, Christmas in New York heist comedies. With Dick Van Dyke leading a conniving old school and up and coming cast on how the rich maintain staying rich. Excellent horn rich and Harpsichord soundtrack by a young John Williams.

‘A Christmas Story’ Just a great period piece Christmas movie!

  3. I saw A Shop Around The Corner (1940) with the family, there were cute moments and good performances, but the film had flaws and wasn’t as perfect as the 100% rating on rotten tomatoes suggests. My favorite as a kid was Santa Claus The Movie (1985) which has has 17% rotten score haha 🙂
