The Monday Question: Oscar nominations!

The Monday Question

Although I’m someone who really doesn’t care for the Oscars this is the time of year where you simply can not escape it as everyone is writing about them. So when the nomination were announced last week my mailbox was filled with them. I looked at them once and one thing stood out to me in the animation category, which was that The Lego Movie didn’t get nominated. Besides that nothing else stood out as shocking.

What were your surprises concerning the Oscar nominations?

  1. Having not seen many of the Oscar nominated pictures, The LEGO Movie was my big shock, as well. I just knew that was a shoo-in for at least a nom, if not a win.

  2. It’s hard to get too riled up the Oscars (despite the lack of diversity), but there were a few nice surprises. I was happy to see Ida also get nominated for Best Cinematography. I also liked Wes Anderson finally getting a Best Director nomination, despite it not being my favorite from him. Both Anderson and Richard Linklater have deserved the awards consideration for so long.

    • Yeah, Oscars don’t get my heart pumping anymore. Still have to see Ida as I’ve been hearing so much good things about it. Wouldn’t mind Anderson winning for best director.

  3. I was surprised that Lego didn’t get in as well (although I liked that decision); Marion Cotillard for Best Actress (I was sure Aniston would get that nod and while I would’ve loved seeing her nominated, Marion is one of my favorites and I love that she was recognized). Bummed that Damien Chazelle didn’t get in for directing Whiplash. Surprised a bit at the Best Actor race (Cooper and Carell in, Oyelowo out).

  4. Like others commenting, no nomination for “The Lego Movie”

Also, Bradley Cooper’s nomination was a surprise. Not because he doesn’t deserve because he does, but because he wasn’t nominated at any of the other awards shows.
