What Exactly is Larry David Up To Nowadays?

Larry David

It’s a question that most ardent comedy fans ask themselves very day; just what exactly has seminal comedy writer, director, producer and actor Larry David been up to these past few years? The question is pretty hard to answer. In true David fashion, the man who wrote and produced the exceptional series Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm has been very much out of the limelight, popping up now and again unannounced, much to the glee of his fans.

Film?

Since writing and directing the film Sour Grapes in 1998 – a film in which two cousins flying high on a $400,000 jackpot win at a Vegas casino end up fighting over who is entitled to the casino – David didn’t go near the movie production game. In 2013 however he wrote and directed the film Clear History, a relatively well-received film about a put-upon ex-businessman, although since then there has been no new films in the star’s pipeline. Who knows what the future could hold though? Perhaps a film focusing on the booming online casino industry might be an avenue; two brothers are playing new casino games at royal vegas casino only to find that they’ve won hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cue the comedy of errors, lots of Jewish jokes, and all manner of terrible gaming-related faux pas.

TV?

Ever since 2011 when the last Curb Your Enthusiasm episode was released, rumours have been circulating across the internet as fans everywhere hope for the release of season 9, yet no solid information has been released on the series’ progress. In January it was reported however that David had told the Howard Stern show that the “odds were against” another season, owing to how attached to the show the creator was and how he didn’t wish for it to be ruined. Although that’s bad news for any Curb fan, David has had cameos in a number of hit series and will likely do so going in to the future; The Marriage Ref., talk shows, even Hannah Montana has seen David co-star in recent years!

Stage?

We all know and love the hilarious fourth season of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ in which David is cast as the lead in Mel Brooks’ musical adaptation of The Producers, but the comedy great has returned to the stage in earnest this year in his new comedy, ‘Fish in the Dark‘! Playing an argumentative and ill-mannered urinal manufacturer, the new show has broken Broadway’s advanced sale records, totting up $13.5 million worth of tickets sold, and has received richly favourable reviews from pundits.

What will Larry David do next? Who knows! But perhaps that’s the best thing about the veteran comedian- every new project is a surprise!
