My Filmviews Top 100 Films: 90-81

My Filmviews Top 100 90-81

The countdown of my 100 favourite films continues after I started it last week. This week the numbers 90 to 81.

90. Gattaca

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Review Gattaca[/mlprx]
If you are born normally in the world of Gattaca than there is a big chance that you are already doomed to a lesser existence. Genetic modification has become a reality and if your genes aren’t good it means you won’t be able to obtain a good job. That doesn’t stop the, according to this society, genetically inferior Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke) to dream about going into space and actually coming up with a plan to do so. A murder at his work might change that plan though. The result is a movie filled with tension and a look which is both retro and futuristic. The best stories usually are the one which you can imagine happening and this is one where I could see it becoming reality. [My review]

89. Some Like it Hot

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Some Like it Hot[/mlprx]
Classic comedy starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. The story is about two musicians who has to dress up as women and join a band in order to get away from the mob. It is a movie which still manages to make me laugh every time I see it. [My review]

88. Frequency

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]Frequency[/mlprx]
Frequency is a film I don’t hear enough people talk about, but this story about a son who, through an old radio transmitter, is able to talk his father living in the past is an exciting and heartwarming watch. Together they make changes to the past, which impacts the future and causes other issues. Together they will have to try to get everything right. Watch this one as soon as you can. [My review]

87. Up in the Air

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Up in the Air[/mlprx]
Director Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank Your for Smoking) has the viewer jump into the world of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a professional who has specialised in bringing bad news: telling people they have been fired. He is the best in his field and travels all year round. When a young employee (Anna Kendrick) has innovative plans this could mean a big change in Ryan’s life. I just love this film because of its story and great performances. [My review]

86. Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Kung Pow[/mlprx]
This probably is one of those movies where you start wondering how this ends up in a top 100 list, but this film is one of my favourite comedies. I think that director Steve Oedekerk has succeeded to ingeneously inserted himself into an old kung movie and then reduced the whole movie badly on purpose. The result is a bizarre one which you either love or hate. I belong to the first group. That’s a lot of nuts!

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

85. Coming to America

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Coming to America[/mlprx]
This movie a bout a prince who heads to America to go wild, but ends up falling in love is one I can watch endlessly. Eddie Murphy makes his character sympathetic. The mixups and hectic moments are hilarious. Taste the soup!

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

84. Raging Bull

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Raging Bull[/mlprx]
This is just a beautifully shot movie in black and white about boxing legend Jake La Motta. Martin Scorsese again worked together with Robert de Niro resulting in a great film. The way in which Scorcese has shot the fights belong among the best.

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

83. Office space

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Office Space[/mlprx]
If you have ever worked in an office yourself than this movie is one you will really enjoy as so much is recognisable. The managers who only think about their spreadsheets, the strange colleagues and frustration when it comes to computers are all experiences which are used for very funny jokes.

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

82. The Terminator

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]The Terminator[/mlprx]
A movie I revisited again last year and which I now appreciate almost as much as I do the sequel. The story about a machine which is sent from the future to kill the mother of a rebel leader to prevent him being born is raw. Schwarzenegger is perfectly cast as the dangerous robot. [My review]

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

81. Casino

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Casino[/mlprx]
After Raging Bull and Goodfellas, Martin Scorcese again worked with Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci. The result is a great gangster movie set in Las Vegas. [My review]

What is your opinion about these films?

  1. Nostra, I have something to tell you. Come closer…

I really like the band ‘Nsync. My favorite member is Harpo. I think there’s a Harpo. Anyways, I will write their next hit song. It will “boom-boom, chika-chika, boom-boom”

  2. Coming to America, The Teriminator and Gattaca are favorites of mine also, hold up so well to repeat viewings

Kung Pow’s so-bad-it’s-good reputation intrigues me, I should check it out. I think I’ll either love it or hate it 🙂

  3. The Terminator, Raging Bull and Casino will probably make my list too. I like your other choices but not sure they’ll make my top 100.

  4. Love see “Gattaca” on the list. I sometimes think it is a forgotten classic. I would have placed “Raging Bull” and “The Terminator” higher.

    • Yeah, don’t hear too many people talk about it. I understand you’d place these higher, but there are som any other movies I love even more than these.
