Racing Extinction (2015) – Review

Review Racing Extinction

Few people still doubt that mankind has had a huge impact on nature and cliamte. The polar ice caps are melting and because the world’s population keeps growing it means that there is less and less room for animals to live and that the demand for meat and fish increases. The consequences are obvious: More animals species go extinct or are about to. Often the cause of it is economic and this documentary tries to show the reality of it all.

Review Racing Extinction

This documentary has been directed by Louie Psihoyos, who previously was responsible for The Cove, which shocked as he showed by using hidden cameras how hundreds of dolphins were slaugthered in Japan. For this film he decided to go undercover as well to show some other shocking facts. You see how a big American sushi restaurant serves whale meat, but also how big the trade of sharkfins is in China. The end result are moments which will make your jaw drop, but that isn’t the main message. He mainly wants to inform people by creating awareness and changes in behaviour.

The documentary ends with and impressive projection show done by using a heavily modified Tesla (Elon Musk also shortly appears) which eventually uses the United Nations building for its message. Racing Extinction shows you the horrible things which are going on and you might not want to hear, but it also makes clear that if we change this it will benefit us as well.
