Of course you make your choices thinking of possible risks and deciding if it’s worth it. It depends on the person how they deal with setbacks. Do you give up or will you start searching for ways to solve it?

Review La resistance de L'air

Vincent Cavelle (Reda Kateb) is doing great. He’s married to Delphine (Ludivine Sagnier) and has a daughter. Together they are realising the house they’ve been dreaming about on a nice piece of land. When Armand’s father (Tchéky Karyo) has a stroke it puts pressure on their relationship. He stays in their house and acts anything but kind. Realizing the house also turns out to be more expensive than expected and they start to have financial issues. Vincent doesn’t know how to solve them, but at his local shooting club is approached by a new member, Renaud (Johan Heldenbergh). The two regularly meet and after a while Renaud tells him about an assignment he has for him. Vincent is the best sharpshooter in the club and he can do a job which won’t have any risks for him. He can make a lot of money and Vincent decides to take it. Is this the solution to his problems?

“a joy to watch…”

Writers Noé Debré and Thomas Bidegain are very experienced (they were responsible for Dheepan, Un Prophète and De Rouille et d’Os) and have written the script for this film. Unfortunately it isn’t of the same high level those movies were. Thanks to great roles by Reda kateb, who is playing his character as someone who is very closed with his emotion and Johan Heldenbergh, who can be both friendly and extremely threatening, it is still a joy to watch this film. It tries to answer the question what someone is willing to do in order to get his life back on track even if that means crossing lines you shouldn’t.
