Kiki, el amor se hace (2016) – Review

Kiki, el amor se hace review
When it´s hot outside it has an effect on all of us. That´s something which becomes clear when you head to the south of Europe. The people living around the Mediterranean Sea are well-known about their passion. So when you make a movie about love and sex in Spain, you can expect a movie which doesn´t hold back. In its home country more than 750.000 people went out to see it, so it´s been very successful. But is Kiki, el amor se hace a movie which can do the same in countries far more north=

Kiki, el amor se hace Review

The movie consists of five separate stories which are mixed together and all are about love and sex, including specific sexual fantasies and fetishes. There is a couple who decide that their sex life could be better and decide to try new things, two people who´ve been dating for a long time where the woman has found out that being robbed really excites her.

Sandra is a deaf woman with a fetish for fabric and is looking for someone who understands. There is a plastic surgeon who gets excited by his disabled wife sleeping, but she doesn´t want anything to do with him resulting in him taking some extreme measures. And lastly there is a couple working at a fun fair who really would like to have a child. The woman discovers that she gets turned on when she sees her husband crying and starts to do anything possible to do so in order to satisfy her secret desires.

“a somewhat strange, but funny film…”

These stories regularly result in bizarre situations, but director Paco León (who co-wrote the script) succeeds in making this a movie which is fun to watch and has a lot of humour. With its light tone several fetishes are shown and you keep wondering what will happen next to the various characters. My expectation is that this movie probably won’t be seen as much as it did in Span, but for those open to a somewhat strange, but funny film this is one to check out and which will certainly lead to some discussion afterwards.
