Borrowed Time (2015) – Short movie review

Borrowed Time review

We all know that animation isn’t only used to make movies for children (just look at Grave of the Fireflies). Directors Lou Hamou-Lhadj and Andrew Coats, who both work at Pixar, decided to make an animated short in their spare time. It would take them five years before they’d finish it and it has payed off, as the short is in the race for an Oscar. Enough reason to give this short a look.

The story revolves around an old cowboy who returns to a place he was when he was young. He relives what happened there. It is not a movie young children should watch as it has some shocking moments. The directors have managed to put lots of emotion into the characters (combined with beautiful music), which results in a true masterclass of short movie making. The events are dramatic and in subtle movements you see how this man is struggling with his feeling. It’s an emotional must-see!

  1. Saw this pop up on reddit a while ago—fantastic short. I really think those guys over at Pixar should create a more adult/grown-up film. They’d kill it!
