The Accountant (2016) – Review

Review The Accountant

A couple of years ago Ben Affleck to me wasn’t an actor who made me feel like I should immediately head to the cinema. He didn’t always manage to convince, but he’s been good in the last couple of years (Gone Girl, but also behind the camera Argo, The Town). A movie about an accountant might not immediately sound like a movie you should check out. Luckily the marketing department was smart enough to show Affleck with a rifle on the poster, which gave some different expectations. Does that result in a cool movie?

Review The Accountant

Affleck is Christian Wolff, a man who is slightly autistic and has to finish everything he starts. He is good as an accountant, but in the past he also worked for criminal organisations making sure that their money doesn’t disappear. For years he has managed to stay off the radar of the government, but now they have started to search for him. At the same time he is asked to do an accounting job for a big robotics company, checking the administration as money seems to be missing. There he meets Dana Cummings (Anna Kendrick) and together they discover something which endangers both of them. Wolff is very capable to defend himself and is an efficient killing machine. So his opponents have to watch out.

“offers two hours of entertainment…”

The Accountant didn’t receive a lot of positive reviews, but I really enjoyed watching it. Basically because the action has been shot well and the fights are fun to watch. Affleck’s character might have some weird character traits, but I was convinced he was able to do the things he did. Anna Kendrick was good, but because the way she acts felt out-of-place in this movie. This is a tough in its action and Kendrick in general plays more airy parts. Despite that the movie offers two hours of entertainment, filled with crime, tension and action.

  1. A little Yankee Dutch in the beginning of your sentence “…een is slightly autistic and has…”….I loved this movie and it was the sleeper surprise of 2016 for me.
