Williams (2017) – Review

Review Williams
Even though the Formula 1 season has ended, fans of this racing class still can watch more about the sport in the form of movies having to do with Formula 1. Just think of films like Grand Prix or Rush. But maybe documentaries about the subject are even more interesting to watch as they can teach you quite a bit about the history of the sport, including interviews with the drivers. Just think of 1: Life on the Limit or the masterful Senna. This year brings some new documentaries like McLaren, one about Ferrari and this documentary which is available through Netflix, Williams.

Review Williams

Most people will know Frank Williams as the man in the wheelchair, a team boss who always looks serious and whose team no longer races at the top of this class. This documentary takes a look behind the scenes and tells the story of Williams life, his passion for everything having to do with cars (which were even more important to him than family) and of course the accident he had which meant he would never be able to race again. BBC Films brings that story to life in a wonderful way. Not only by interviewing the man himself, but also his son and daughter. Even his late wife’s conversations, which she had with an author to have a book made about her life with him (which he didn’t know), are re-enacted. The end result is a beautifully realised portrait of a well-known name within the world of Formula 1, not shying away from the not so great parts of his life. Because of that it brings the story to life and makes you understand the man behind the name just a little bit better.
