Deadpool 2 (2018) – Review

Review Deadpool 2

When Deadpool came out in 2016 it was a breath of fresh air amongst the overload of superhero movies. The formula of them was well-known and for some people the fatigue started to creep up. It was a film that wasn’t what you were expecting. It managed to shock, not take itself seriously and make fun of a lot of things, including other superhero movies. I had a blast watching it and was looking forward to the sequel. Would it be possible to follow the original up with something just as fresh?

Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) has been fighting bad guys for a while, but when one escapes who later comes back for revenge, it is something that has a huge impact on him. His life is changed and he decides to form a team in order to protect a young mutant (Julian Dennison (Hunt for the Wilderpeople)) who is hunted by the futuristic cyborg Cable (Josh Brolin).

&nbspThis second part is as funny as the original was, but didn’t manage to win me over immediately. Maybe it’s the shift in tone as more serious subject matter is woven in, but I somehow wasn’t as invested as I was in the original. Despite that I still had a great time with its mix of shock and jokes and really liked the addition of Cable and the X-Force. There is a heist scene which is a joy to watch and has a couple of unexpected moments. Deadpool 2 simply couldn’t match the brilliant original, but if you liked that one, you will have a great time with this sequel.
