Pleasantville (1998) – Review

Review Pleasantville2016 Blindspot Films

As it’s already may I realised that I was starting to get behind on my Blindspot movies as I had only seen two out of the twelve titles I picked. So time to spend some time on watching some more and Pleasantville seemed like a very interesting film. The only thing I heard about it in advance was that most of this movie was in black and white, but that color slowly was introduced. That is partly right, but the movie is much more. A Simple Plan (1998)

Review A Simple Plan (1998)

Often the simple ideas are the most effective and A Simple Plan is a prime example of that. Three men accidentally discover a bag with a huge amount of money which they decide to keep and hide for a while. Life is unpredictable though and these men soon find out that simple things can quickly become extremely complicated. Continue reading

The Big Hit (1998)

Review of The Big Hit

If this image above interests you than I can already tell you that you should check out The Big Hit if you have not seen it yet. It quickly summarises this over the top action movie perfectly as it both silly and entertaining. I had not seen this movie in ages and when I recently was browsing IMDB it came by in the suggestions. It was a film I had forgotten about until I saw its poster and I just had to revisit it. Continue reading

Perfect Blue (1998)

Review of the 1998 anime movie Perfect Blue

As you may know my favorite movie is Black Swan and when I read that director Darren Aronofsky bought the rights to Perfect Blue I knew I had to watch it. In Requiem for a Dream he has remade one of the scenes exactly. Watching Perfect Blue I could also see that Black Swan has some similar subject matter. Continue reading

Run Lola Run (1998)

Time is a funny thing, something we can’t stop and the decisions we make can’t be changed. We may look back in hindsight and know we should have made a different choice, but at the time it seemed like the best one. Relatively small things can have big consequences and I know for a fact my life would have been very different had my first job been somewhere else. I would not have met some of my friends who shaped me into the person I am today. I wouldn’t have met specific people, did the sports I did and love the kind of music I do now. This movie looks at how those small changes can have a huge impact on the lives of its characters and explores the possibilities. Maybe not as grand as Mr.Nobody does, but the concept is very interesting. Continue reading

Thursday (1998)

Years ago there was a movie shop that imported DVDs, which I visited regularly. Every week they mailed a newsletter which had various movie lists and interesting reviews of movies I never heard of.
One of the movies they talked about was Thursday, which was hard to get as it was only available by importing it from Germany. Because the staff had written raving reviews I decided to order this movie. As things usually go when I buy a movie it might take a while before I actually watch them. In this particular case it took years before I finally got around to seeing it. Is it a fine wine that I had left to ripen or is it a waste of time? Continue reading

Following (1998)

Following is Christopher Nolan’s (Memento, Inception) first movie he wrote and directed. It has been made on a very small budget and took months to film as all the actors had day jobs and were only available during the weekends. After Nolan’s house was burgled he wondered what a burglar is thinking while he is walking through a house and sees things like pictures or items. Following is the execution of this idea.
Bill is a writer who randomly follows people on the streets. He slowly starts to get addicted to it and becomes obsessed by it. It slowly turns him into a stalker and one of the guys he is following notices this and start talking to him. Turns out that guy is a burglar and Bill is so fascinated by this that he asks if it is possible to join him to see how he does his job. It doesn’t stop with just watching and Bill keeps passing his own moral boundaries. Continue reading

Half Baked (1998)

Dave Chappelle is one of my favourite comedians ever (as is Chris Rock). This movie, which was made far before he became really famous with his own show already show how good he is in his timing of jokes. In the movie Dave Chappelle’s Block Party (which i have given an 8, it really is a great music movie with lots of funny moments) he told how important timing is when he compares it to playing music.
I saw the movie ages ago and wanted to see it again. Although it’s a movie that will surely be popular to people who like to get high, it’s also a movie you can see if you don’t. Continue reading
