Fury (2014)

review Fury

War is hell and for Don ‘Wardaddy’ Collier (Brad Pitt), Boyd ‘Bible’ Swan (Shia LaBeouf), Trini ‘Gordo’ Garcia (Michael Peña) and Grady ‘Coon-Ass’ Travis (Jon Bernthal) that hell comes in the form of a tank they have named “Fury”. The group has been working together for a while, with Wardaddy taking the lead, and they have lived through many horrible situations. The American tanks are weak compared to the German ones and they have witnessed fellow crews finding their death. Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman) has never fought before, has been trained to speed type and has never seen the inside of the tank. Still he is assigned to join these men on the Fury, who aren’t too happy with that. Norman quickly finds out what war is about as the American troups slowly move further into Germany. World War Z (2013)

World War Z (2013) review

When it comes to the zombie genre I’m pretty much an inexperienced movie watcher. If I have to make a list of movies with zombies I’ve seen it is very short: Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead. I never understood the obsession with zombies but I have to admit that I really enjoyed the two movies I have seen about them. I scored both of them quite high. So now there is World War Z, which takes the concept of the zombie and gives it its own twist. These zombies are not the slow-moving undead you are used to, these are zombies with rabies, extremely quick and very aggressive as the opening of the movie quickly makes clear. Continue reading

Killing Them Softly (2012)

From the moment Killing Them Softly starts, you know this is a movie that’s different. The sound is disorienting, the cuts sudden and as I heard soundbites from the previous presidential election I started to wonder if the movie had already started or that I was watching a trailer for something else. Set against the streets of New Orleans, which seem to be almost devoid of life, this movie tells a story about crime and possibly about the state of America. A movie which immediately stands out and takes you into the dark world of gambling and hitmen. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Brad Pitt

An overview of the many roles of Brad Pitt

It’s that time of the week again when I take a look at the many roles of one actor, this week with Brad Pitt. Pitt was born in 1963. As he grew up he was always very active as he participated in various sports. Once he graduated high school he went to the University of Missour in 1982. He majored in journalism and was interested in advertising. Something which also interested him was acting and he left the university two week before graduation to move to Los Angeles. He had his first roles in 1987 and appeared in shows like Dallas and Growing Pains and 21 Jump Street. His first leading role was in the movie The Dark Side of the Sun in 1988, which wasn’t released until almost 10 years later. His breakthrough came when he appeared in Thelma and Louise in 1991. From this moment his career took off. He has been nominated for an Oscar several times, but has not won it yet. Continue reading

Megamind (2010)

Through the years the focus of most movies has been on the good guys. Of course there have been some exceptions like the Emperor’s New Groove or the more recent Despicable Me, where the villain was the focus of the movie. Megamind (voiced by Will Ferrell) is next villain to star in an animated movie, fighting he arch-enemy Metro Man (Brad Pitt). Metro Man is the superman of Metro City, which really annoys Megamind.
The two have been fighting for years, with Metro Man constantly winning. Megamind just keeps going until one of his plans suddenly seems to work and finally he can claim victory and is able to make his dreams come true. He takes over the city and is able to execute all his evil plans. This initially feels good, but the feeling doesn’t last long. Continue reading
