Bad Asses on the Bayou (2015)

Review Bad Asses on the Bayou

After Bad Ass and Bad Asses Frank Vega (Danny Trejo) and Bernie Pope (Danny Glover) are back in already the third movie in this franchise.

If you don’t know these films: the original movie was based on a Youtube video in which an old men beat up two other guys on a bus. The man, with his fanny pack and beard became known as “Epic Beard Man” and that event was recreated in Bad Ass. The rest of the story (just like the second movie) can be best summarised as taking revenge. The second movie introduced Bernie, who was sick and only had a short time to live. In this third movie the team is on a new mission. Continue reading

Review Bad Asses

The “epic beard man” is back! Danny Trejo, who became well-known thanks to his part in Robert Rodriguez movies like Desperado and Machete, is back in his role as Frank Vega, better known as Bad Ass. He is a war veteran who has become famous in his town because he stood up against some skinheads during a bus ride and kicked their asses. The first movie was based on a Youtube movie and managed to surprise me in a positive way. It was a throwback to the action movies of the eighties and nineties and so is this sequel. As the title already suggests Bad Ass is not alone this time. Continue reading

Bad Ass (2012)

Review Bad Ass

Do you have a movie instinct? You know that feeling you get by looking at a poster or a trailer of a movie and forming an opinion about that movie which usually is right? I’d like to think mine is pretty good, so when I read some information on this movie I thought I’d just watch the trailer as it would be a movie I wasn’t planning on watching.

The trailer basically is a copy of the Youtube hit “Epic Beard Man” where an old bearded man gets into a verbal fight with a fellow bus passenger who thinks he can beat him. Once he takes a swing the Epic Beard Man knocks him to the ground.
I thought it was intruiging that this was used as the thing to base the movie on, with Danny Trejo taking the role of the old man and thought I’d just give it a look, but was expecting a horrible film. Turns out that my movie instinct sometimes can be wrong. Continue reading

Machete (2010)

When Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez were making the Grindhouse movies (Death Proof and Planet Terror), they wanted to show some fake trailers between the movies. One of those trailers was Machete, which was about a Mexican who was hired to kill someone, but finds out it’s a trap and as a result is hunted by a lot of people. Time for him to take revenge on those responsible.

The trailer turned out to be so popular (I really liked it as well when I first saw it) that Rodriguez got a lot of questions about it. People actually wanted to see the movie so he decided to make a feature length film of it. Is the movie just as much fun as the trailer or shouldn’t Rodriguez have bothered? Continue reading

Eyeborgs (2009)

What’s the first thought that goes through your mind when you hear the title “Eyeborgs”? For me there were two things:
1. B-movie
2. Associations with the Terminator movies (so some science fiction)
The second point made me decide, despite point 1 to give this movie a chance. My expectations were not very high. The only well-known actor that is part of the cast is Danny Trejo and he’s only in 2 scenes if I remember correctly. Is Eyeborgs a movie worth watching? Continue reading
