2 Guns review

Just one look at the poster was enough reason for me to go watch this movie: 2 Guns. Denzel Washington. Mark Wahlberg. With a title like that and those actors I was expecting to have a great time with an entertaining action movie. The movie started out interesting: Two men who head into a sleepy town to prepare a bank robbery. Without knowing anything about the movie I was looking forward to a great 109 minutes. The Many Faces of… Denzel Washington

Welcome to a new installment of the Friday Faces, but before we get into it let me state that I will have a small break the coming two weeks. Don’t worry though as I have scheduled some posts for you to enjoy while I am away. Now back to the regular program:

Denzel Washington was born on December 28, 1954 in Mount Vernon. When he was 14 he was sent to a military academy after his parents divorced. He got a bachelors degree in drama and journalism from University in 1977. He tried his hand at acting when someone at a summer camp suggested it to him. He decided he would and after acting in several plays and made his movie debut in a very small role in Death Wish. He appeared in several other movies and played Dr. Philip Chandler in St. Elsewhere. He became a large name in Hollywood after he teamed up with Spike Lee. He has played the inconic role of Malcolm X and has since had a steady career. He won 2 Oscars, one for Best Actor in Training Day and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Glory and has been nominated 3 other times. Continue reading

Safe House (2012)

review

The world of spies is always an interesting subject for movies. It has spawned big franchises like the Bond, Bourne and Mission Impossible series, but every year also sees a sprinkling of other spy related movies, movies like Salt, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Spy Game, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Haywire immediately come to mind. Safe House is also set in the world from spies, but the setup is slightly different. Continue reading

The Book of Eli (2010)

After a big disaster of global scale there are always people who survive it. At least that we learn from movies like The Road , I Am Legend (which I gave a 6 ) and Waterworld. Of course this is almost necessary as it will become pretty hard to make an interesting movie (although the movie 9 managed to do it (which I gave a 7)). The Book of Eli also gives its vision on what a post apocalyptic world might look like. Continue reading
