Review of Moulin Rouge!

I’m not big on musicals, maybe the reason for it is the amount of Disney movies I’ve seen where they burst out singing, but I always have the feeling they are not for me. Still I do watch them occasionally and there are some which I do like. Singing in the Rain is a good example and so is this one, Moulin Rouge!. It is a movie I’ve had in my collection for years and felt like watching it again. In anticipation to the Great Gatsby I just had to see another movie by director Baz Luhrmann. Continue reading

The Many Faces of… Nicole Kidman

Welcome to another installment of this weekly series, this week starring Australian actress Nicole Kidman. She was born on the 20th of June 1967 on Hawaii (also making her American). Her parents went back to Australia when she was four. There she went to several schools where she showed a talent for acting even though she was quite shy. She studied at various theatre schools. She had her first role at the age of 16 acting in a Christmas movie, Bush Christmas. It was followed by work in a TV series and various roles in other movies. She made her American debut opposite of Tom Cruise (who was her boyfriend at the time) in Days of Thunder and her star quickly began to rise. She won an Oscar for her role in The Hours. Rabbit Hole (2010)

The loss of someone you love can have a lot of impact on someone’s life. It’s also something everyone responds differently to. Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) have lost their son and do their best to try to move on with their lives, which isn’t easy. There is a lot of friction between the two and they can hardly talk about it with each other.
The have joined a therapy group to listen what other parents are doing that have gone through the same thing, but even this is hard for Becca. She really can’t handle it. Continue reading
