Iron Man 3 (2013)

Review of Iron Man 3

The reason I really enjoyed the first Iron Man movie was not because of the fact that a comic book character was coming to the big screen. I don’t read comics, so to me it’s just another action movie. Iron Man could be any other character as long as the story keeps me entertained. No, the reason I really enjoyed the first Iron Man movie was mainly because the actor playing him, Robert Downey Jr. He brought so much humour to the role, of this rich guy feeling superior and able to back it up that it wasn’t difficult to root for Tony Stark. Because of that I really looked forward to Iron Man 2. It was a movie that ended up disappointing me, because the character seemed different, there weren’t as much wisecracks and the movie felt overly long. The Avengers brought everything back I was expecting from the character, which made me confident that Iron Man 3 would be a better movie than the sequel. The question is if that’s the case. The Many Faces of… Robert Downey Jr.

An overview of the roles of Robert Downey Jr. pictures

It’s the end of the week, which means the weekend is about to start and a new installment of “The Many Faces of…” is here. This week’s choice is Robert Downey Jr, who started his acting career at the age of 5. His parents were both actors. His father has a drug problem and unfortunately it is something he shared with his son, who later had issues with them as well. Initially his star rose quickly, but during the nineties he was arrested several times and even had to go to jail. He managed to get back into the spotlight and rose to fame again. Continue reading

Chaplin (1992)

Chaplin

When it comes to the stars of the silent era I must admit that I do not have a lot of knowledge about them and haven’t seen too many of their movies. Last year was the first time I saw a Buster Keaton (The General, which is one of the most amazing movies involving a train) or Charlie Chaplin movie. The first Chaplin movie I saw was actually a “talkie”, The Great Dictator which I absolutely loved and gave a 10. After this I wanted to see more of his movies (have seen City Lights, The Gold Rush and The Kid), but still love that movie the most. I didn’t know anything about Charlie Chaplin when he wasn’t in front of the camera and this biopic about the man filled in that blank. Continue reading

Due Date (2010)

Visiting a movie theatre is not what is used to be. There once was a time where you could just buy a ticket, get your refreshments and wait for the doors to open, no more. It seems that visiting a cinema needs to be an “experience”. At least that was what I found out when visiting to see this movie.

The theatre I go to (called Pathé) has special Ladies nights, which I was not aware of. It’s quite succesful as most of the people walking around were actually women. To cater to these women they were selling clothing, makeup etcetera and a lot of women were buying. It was something I was not prepared for. After finally managing to get through the crowd it was time to watch Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. Continue reading

Iron Man 2 (2010)

The first Iron Man film was a very good superhero movie (which i gave an 8 at the time). It was a good movie that showed the origins of Iron man. Now that we know how he came to be, part 2 can crank up the action. Does Iron Man how to fly to great highs again or is there a malfunction in the suit that makes the movie crash horribly? Continue reading
