It has been a while since Sacha Baron Cohen appeared in his own movie. His last one was The Dictator in 2012 and in the meantime he has appeared in various smaller roles, like in Alice Through the Looking Glass, Les Misérables and Anchorman 2. His roles in those were different, but in his own films he is known for one thing: being able to shock. Whether he does that by not conforming to social norms or embarrassing others, there’s always something you’ll remember. Grimsby is no different and he even seems to take it a step further. The Dictator (2012)

When it comes to comedy it seems that there is no subject you can’t make jokes about and Sacha Baron Cohen has shown with his various movies that he is excellent at shocking audiences (and making them laugh in the process). Ali G, Borat and Brüno were all characters that played with stereotypes while commenting on specific things and showing people’s reactions to them. In The Dictator Cohen slips into the role of dictator Aladeen and with this movie he immediately sets the tone by starting it with a dedication to (in loving memory of) Kim Jong Il. Continue reading

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)

After the success of the first Madagascar, in which four wild animals from the New York zoo end up in the wild of Madagascar, it is no surprise that a sequel would be made. The lion Alex (Ben Stiller), hippo Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith), giraffe Melman (David Schwimmer) and zebra Marty (Chris Rock) decide to leave the island (together with the penguins) to return to New York. Because penguins are not the best mechanics, the plane they have fixed literally falls short of their goal to reach home and they crash in Africa Continue reading
