Black Mirror – Season 1: National Anthem

Review of Black Mirror National Anthem episode s01e01

During the last couple of years I haven’t watched too many television show and therefore I missed many great shows. This was also the case for Black Mirror. Many people I know told me I should be checking it out, especially because I’ve always had a lot of interest in technology. It made me curious and decided to give it a watch, especially since a season only consists of three episodes. Now I normally don’t like including spoilers in my reviews, but as this is a series I’m going to break that rule. I’m also going to review each episode separately. If the first episode is any indication of the quality of the rest of the season, I’m in for something amazing. If you have not seen this show yet you can stop reading now and check out the first episode, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. It simply is phenomenal. Continue reading

Europa Report (2013)

Review of Europa Report

Not too long ago I reviewed Red Planet, which I quite liked up till the moment that some unnecessary elements were added (like a robot turned enemy). I wished that it would have just been about the survival of the crew and with Europa Report it seems that this is the movie I wanted to see. In this case the journey does not go to Mars, but to a moon of Jupiter. So the story is of the type I would like to see, but question is: Is it any good? Continue reading

Robot and Frank (2012)

Review of the movie Robot and Frank

Growing up the visions of the year 2000 were always interesting to see and I always loved programs which showed the future. Robots would be everywhere and could do a lot. It never happened that way, but still we all have things in our house which you could label robots. Just think about a dishwasher, microwave or phone which you can actually talk to and have do things. But still, I still dream of the day that something which actually looks like what we think a robot is, will be in your home, helping you with everything only for the price of electricity and maintenance.
In the world of Robot and Frank that dream has been turned into a reality, but it doesn’t mean everyone is happy with that development. Continue reading

Looper (2012)

review

The time travel genre has produced some great movies through the years. Movies which make you think like Primer, Timecrimes or Donnie Darko, dramas like The Lake House or Frequency, entertaining films like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure or Back to the Future and of course action movies like Terminator. Looper can be added to that last category (and even shares some similarities with Terminator), but gives the concept of time travel its own unique twist. Continue reading

Prometheus (2012)

When it comes to science fiction movies I’ve got the feeling that there are way too little good ones out each year, so when I heard that Ridley Scott, who’s known for great movies like Bladerunner and Alien would be releasing a new sci fi movie I couldn’t wait to see it. I managed to dodge all news and trailers about the movie, so I went in blank and without expectations. Did Prometheus manage to quench my thirst for good sci fi?

Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959)

If you have seen the movie Ed Wood you probably already now a little about this movie. If you haven’t heard about Ed Wood, he was a director who through his career created several movies which were notorious for their strange plots, technical errors and bad special effects. I was very curious myself to find out if his movies really were that bad and decided to check this one out as it was called the worst movie ever made. Continue reading

Predator (1988)

There are always movies that everybody seems to have seen, except for yourself. For me Predator is one of those movies. When it came out I wasn’t allowed to watch these type of movies yet, but lot of my friends did see it. So I missed out on being able to talk about it then. Over the years I really didn’t really think about it watching it, but I was always interested in seeing it. So did this turn out as disappointment or was it as fun as I imagined? Continue reading
