Na American Honey or Rosario Dawson in Kids or Jennifer Lawrence. They were able to act natural in front of the camera and make a lasting impression. It requires a very good eye from a director or someone in casting. Vicky Knight plays the lead role in Dirty God. She had never acted before and for a long time declined the offer to play the lead role in here. The talent attached to Triple Frontier, was enough reason for me to check out this Netflix movie, which is directed by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year, All is Lost and Margin Call). Just like the real one, the Marvel universe also continues to expand. And although Thanos movie caused a lot to change in this universe in the last Avengers movie, the ending was the first mention of a new superhero, Captain Marvel. If you injure yourself, you will recover less quickly, you may need a new hip and a cold can have more serious consequences. Vice (2018) – Review
The medium of film is a true chameleon. It can be used to entertain, share information, raise awareness or provoke discussion. The film screen is a blank canvas on which a filmmaker can paint whatever he wants, and it is up to the viewer to decide whether what is shown is moving you or whether it is good / bad. Director Adam McKay, who previously made The Big Short (but also Step Brothers, Ant-Man and The Other Guys) uses that canvas here for something that is anything but standard. Continue reading
Arctic (2018) – Review
Writing a story for a film is a challenge in which the person who thinks of what happens to the main character can make a huge number of choices. As a writer, you want to be unique and not get into clichés. If you make the right choices and then it is also filmed by a competent director, that can result in a great movie. But if you make one wrong choice it can have a lot of impact on a story, sometimes so much that the viewer is no longer prepared to believe in the world that you have built up with great difficulty. Venom (2018) – Review
The chance that during one year two movies are released, which are both about a man whose relationship comes to an end, where his body is taken over by an intelligent entity and the main characters both look like Tom Hardy (and one actually is Tom Hardy), is extremely small. But it happened this year. After the fantastic Upgrade was released earlier this year, Venom is the one after. Hearts Beat Loud (2018) – Review
Music is emotion and the best artists often use their own experiences to make memorable songs. When you base your movie on the process of creation, it can add something to a movie that you connect to more strongly. Director John Carney seems to be specialized when it comes to creating music, just think of Once, Begin Again and Sing Street. They all deal with music and love. His movies probably are the best in this subgenre. Hearts Beat Loud isn’t directed by him, but also revolves about creating music, relationships and which things inspire you. Continue reading
