Men in Black International (2019) – Review

Recensie Men in Black International
When Sony was hacked a few years ago, one of the most interesting details was that the film company was had idea of doing a crossover film. The idea was to mix Men in Black with the 21 Jump Street franchise. Very interesting, which at the time made me think of other crossovers. Unfortunately, it did not materialize in the end, but Sony still wanted to make money from this franchise. The result is Men in Black International, in which Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth (who were previously fun together in Thor Ragnarok) put on the black suits and sunglasses.

Review Men in Black International
This new part is all about Men In Black in London, who are dealing with a new threat, possibly within the organization itself. It is up to Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) and Agent M (Tessa Thompson) to investigate what is going on.

“just plain boring…”

I went to the first screening of the film in the morning, and yet this film still managed to make me doze off. And that is surprising considering the cast and the world in which it all takes place. The biggest cause is a very weak script. The journey Tessa Thompson’s character goes through, from young girl to “Men in Black” employee is rushed through as quickly as possible and that is the case with more characters. They are all people you do not get to know. You can only rely on what they say, not what you as a viewer have seen what they have experienced. Therefore you do not form a connection with them. In the original film you were surprised just like Will Smith’s character, but that is missing here. This results in A film that’s just plain boring and in which the international aspect actually adds nothing. A disappointing film that makes me yearn for a Men in Black version in which Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum would have worn the black suits.
