The Perfect Guy (2015) – Review

Review The Perfect Guy

We all have our personal obsessions. Healthy, positive obsessions are nothing to worry about, whether that’s very temporary, like really obsessing about something you would love to buy and reading lots about it/watching YouTube reviews and not being able to wait till it arrives on your doorstep (or is that just me?) or wanting to learn everything there is to know about a specific subject. An obsession can give you a drive, a motivation to do things and push you towards an impressive end result. But an obsession is also able to go the other way, making you lose sight of everything else and get you to a point where you no longer function normally and might hurt others by your behaviour. The Perfect Guy shows what can happen in such a situation.

Review The Perfect Guy

Leah (Sanaa Lathan) is a successful lobbyist who has been living together with her boyfriend Dave (Morris Chestnut) for a couple of years. There have been some unresolved issues between them and after visiting some friends the two have a fight and Dave decides to leave Leah. She decides to continue with her life and meets the charming Carter (Michael Ealy) who manages to conquer her heart in no time. She introduces him to her parents and they also get along great with him. When they head back home she witnesses a side of Carter she hasn’t seen before. It’s a side which frightens her so much that she decides to end their relationship. Carter doesn’t want that though and changes from “the perfect guy” into an obsessive stalker.

“doesn’t have a lot of surprises…”

Sometimes you’d wish that you wouldn’t have seen so many movies, carrying around a lot of knowledge about what is about that happen. Unfortunately that isn’t the case and The Perfect Guy doesn’t have a lot of surprises for those with a lot of movie watching experience. Still it’s an entertaining movie to watch because of the strong acting by both Ealy and Lathan, making it an enjoyable snack which lacks the originality to genuinely impress.
