During one of my blogathons I read on Rodney’s Fernby Films, that this movie had a lot of impact on him, which made me curious about it. For him growing up it was a movie (besides The Neverending Story) which gave him the idea he could be more than he was. It was the main reason for me to add this movie to my Blindspot series this year. Style Wars (1984)

Movies and documentaries are sometimes excellent time capsules where you are transported to the time it is set. You travel back and see what the streets looked like at the time and what was in fashion. Style Wars is one of these time capsules that shows two subjects: The start of B-Boys and the battle of the city of New York against graffiti and the reaction of the artists. Continue reading

This is Spinal Tap (1984)

When you first see the title of this movie you would immediately think that this is a documentary about them touring, being to watch what happens behind and off stage in the lives of the members of Spinal Tap. But when you actually start watching it you’ll find out that it’s not a serious movie, but a mockumentary. The band members are interviewed and tell a lot of crazy stories (which you know can’t be true, like why they had so many different drummers and how they kept dying) Continue reading

Ghostbusters (1984)

When you were around in the eighties and you read these sentences: “I ain’t afraid of no ghost” or “Who you gonna call?” then chances are you will now be singing the theme music to Ghost Busters. The movie was very popular and even spawned a sequel and a cartoon, which i also watched when i was little. Continue reading
