The Many Faces of… Frances McDormand

With the Best Actresses Relay race on its way I thought it would be a good idea to pick one of the chosen actresses for this week’s installment. Frances McDormand was born in 1957 in Chicago and was adopted by a Canadian couple and she moved around a lot with her parents. When she went to school she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theater. Her first movie role was in the Coen brother movie Blood Simple. Besides movies, she also appeared on TV, for example in the police show Hill Street Blues. She was nominated for an Oscar four times and received the statue for her role in Fargo. Continue reading →

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)

As stated in this week’s Monday Question about guilty pleasures I can really enjoy the Transformers movies. Although I did watch the cartoons and had some of the toys as a kid, I never had strong feelings about them. The cartoons were entertaining and it was fun transforming cars into robots, but I wouldn’t be able to tell you much about the names of the characters or even what the cartoons were about. Only thing I know is that the Autobots are good and the Decepticons aren’t. After the success of the first two Transformers movies, Michael Bay ends the trilogy with Dark of the Moon. Not much has changed really, it’s still about robots beating the crap out of each other. Continue reading →

Burn after reading (2008)

Burn after reading was on TV the other day and as it’s a movie i quite enjoy i decided to watch it again. This comedy by the brothers Coen, which stars a whole lot of well-known actors (George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand en J.K.Simmons) is a nice movie to see.
