As a movie blogger you carry around knowledge about movies. Whether or not you like it that knowledge will automatically activate whenever you watch any movie. You will notice specific techniques and sometimes recognise certain situations as they remind you of other films you saw before. It is next to impossible to ignore that and that’s something R.I.P.D. definitely has been struggling with if I were to believe the few reviews I’ve read of the movie. Continue reading

Tron: Legacy (2010)

Tron: Legacy was a movie that had a lot of promotion. Disney had high expectations of the sequel to the 1982 original and threw a lot of money at marketing the film. It was almost impossible to not know the movie was coming. If you didn’t see the posters, you would see the toys, the games or other products. Even when I bought my Nokia N8 it had some clips of the movie installed on it. The phone also appeared in the film itself, so it’s logical, but it does show the reach Disney has to get you to notice this film. Luckily I don’t judge movies based on their marketing and promotion, because if I would have done that this movie would have surely received a 10. Of course the most important question is whether or not Tron: Legacy is a good movie. Continue reading

True Grit (2010)

Through the years the brother Coen have managed to create an impressive body of work. It’s an impressive list with movies like Fargo, No Country For Old Men, Burn After Reading, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Big Lebowski. They are all very unique films and the brothers manage to put their own unique stamp on them, which makes them stand out from other movies. True Grit is their next movie and is a remake of True Grit made in 1969 starring John Wayne. Continue reading

Crazy Heart (2009)


There are a lot of movies about the lives of musicians. These can be based on real artists (Johny Cash (Walk the line), Edith Piaf (La môme), Ray Charles (Ray)) or made up (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story). This movie is about a made up character, the artist Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges), an old musician who is experiencing the fall of his career. Continue reading
