Killing Season (2013)

Recensie van Killing Season (2013)

Robert De Niro and John Travolta have both made names for themselves in Hollywood. Both have some memorable movies to their name and both have made some memorable movie choices later in their career. On paper Killing Season sounds like a movie which could be very interesting as it is about an American soldier (de Niro) who fought in former Yugoslavia and a man who came in contact with him during that war (Travolta, who plays his role with a heavy Eastern European accent) and now has sought him out back home to seek revenge. Set in isolated woods with no form of communication, except with each other, the two play a deadly game of cat and mouse/hunter and hunted. Is Killing Season the next Deliverance or doesn’t it even manage to kill time? Continue reading

Blow Out (1981)

Review of Blow Out starring John Travolta

Movie posters and DVD covers should make you want to see a movie, but if you’d look at the one Blow Out has, you would immediately skip it. It only has a warped image of John Travolta’s head, screaming. Not a great way to sell this movie, but look a bit further and you will see that this movie has been directed by Brian De Palma, who also directed Scarface and the first Mission Impossible (among many others). Heard some good things about this movie so I was interested in giving it a chance. Continue reading

Old dogs (2009)

Yeah, i know. A movie with John Travolta, Robin Williams (and a small part by Seth Green)…why would you watch that? None of them have made any really good movies lately. But sometimes i feel like watching a comedy where you know it won’t be a very good movie, but do know there will be some laughs. Old dogs is one of those comedies. Continue reading

From Paris with love (2009)

The poster gives a good summary of the movie. John Travolta plays an extreme undercover agent that can only handle things one way: with guns. From Paris with love is a rollercoaster ride from beginning till end, with quick turns from one action scene to the next. The movie has a nice reference to Pulp Fiction which made me smile. Don’t expect a very complicated story, but just an hour and a half of pure, mindless fun. Within the action genre it’s a very well made movie.
