How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)

Loco Dempsey (Betty Grable), Pola Debevoise (Marilyn Monroe) and Schatze Page (Lauren Bacall) are three single ladies. They all do some modelling work to at least have a little bit of money, but it’s not their most important job. The title of the movie says it all, trying to hook up with a millionaire and marrying them so they can enjoy their wealth. To cover their motives they rent an expensive apartment (that they only can pay by slowly selling all the stuff in the apartment). The search for a man is proving more difficult than they expect. The Seven Year Itch (1955)

This picture probably is one of the most iconic poses by Marilyn Monroe and was taken during the filming of the Seven Year Itch. I’ve seen this picture many times, but never knew it was from this movie. The Seven Year Itch is about Richard Sherman (Tome Ewell) who spends his summer alone in New York, like many other men apparently did in the fifties, while his wife and son are out-of-town to escape the heat. For many men this means an opportunity to go wild and many did. Although Richard is not planning anything he meets a woman who temporarily lives in an upstairs apartment. Some like it hot (1959)

Some like it hot is movie which you will see in many “best/greatest movie” lists. It was a movie which i wanted to see for a long time. Ever since the Odd Couple and Grumpy Old Men i’ve been a big fan of Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. Because Jack Lemmon is starring in this movie, together with Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe it was a movie i had to see and which i enjoyed a lot! Continue reading
