Spring Breakers (2012)

Review of the movie Spring Breakers

Life is what you make it. It is one of those phrases which seems to have lost its power and doesn’t mean much anymore, but as Springbreakers shows, it still holds true. When a couple of teenage girls decide that they all want to head to Florida to party during spring break, they are willing to do anything to make sure that they have the money to go there. They want to escape their everyday existence, which has become boring to them. They rob a restaurant and head over to Florida to party and live out their dream, which eventually involves gangsters, guns and drugs. Continue reading

The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Review of the Wizard of Oz, compared to Oz prequel

The Wizard of Oz is considered a great movie by many and it is easy to see why. A lot of people probably saw it when they were young and nostalgia plays a big part in that appreciation. Then there are the classic and catchy songs like “Over the rainbow” and “You’re off to see the wizard”. Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

Review of the movie Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

Personally I never had an issue with them, at least not if the quality of them are good (which I admit isn’t always the case). Oz the Great and Powerful is a prequel to the classic The Wizard of Oz and tells the story of how that wizard ended up in Oz and how he turned into the wizard. Continue reading

Highway Gospel (2011)

Before watching this documentary I had never heard of longboarding. It’s a sport in which someone takes a very long skateboard and race down a hill. It’s a high risk thing to do, but as this documentary shows it is a high adrenaline one and the people doing it are very passionate about it. Continue reading

Monsieur Lazhar (2011)

Review of the movie Monsieur Lahzar

Movies in which kids play a big part don’t always have to be kids movies and this movie isn’t one. It’s set in a grade school in Canada. The movie opens with a boy doing his task of getting the milk for the class during the break. While he is doing that he makes a terrible discovery as his teacher has hung herself. A shock goes through the school and it’s a difficult time for everyone. They have to look for a replacement and a man volunteers for the job, Bachir Lazhar (Mohamed Fellag). Continue reading
