Hardcore Henry (2015) – Review

Review Hardcore Henry

Is it still possible to innovate after more than 100 years of film? In all those years so many creative minds have brought their visions to the screen that you could assume that we’ve reached the top of what’s possible. But still some filmmakers succeed in making your jaw drop to the ground because they tell their stories in new ways or by effectively using certain techniques like never seen before. The Wachowski’s managed to stun by using two techniques and combining them (still cameras and computers), which brought something fresh to the table.

During the last couple of years the capabilities of digital cameras have quickly grown. Drones enable directors to make shots for which they used to hire helicopters, special setups allow for shooting 360 videos making it possible for the viewer to direct the action. High resolution cameras have become so small that you are able to stick them to your body. That last one is exactly what the makers behind Hardcore Henry have done and the end result is the first full length, first person action film. Continue reading

Elysium (2013)

Review of the science fiction movie Elysium starring Matt Damon

Ever since watching Neil Blomkamp’s District 9 I couldn’t wait to see what he would be doing next as he was able to tell an amazing story in a sci fi setting. With Elysium, starring Matt Damon, he retuns to sci fi. Will he be able to tell an exciting story again? Continue reading

The A-Team (2010)

In the eighties the A-team was a very popular television series, which i loved watching growing up. I had a B.A.Baracus action figure, the A-team fan with several Faces, Murdochs, Hannibals and B.A.’s and the complete series of collectible cards. I still remember them coming to the Netherlands and seeing it on TV. The airport was crowded. They really were extremely popular.
A while ago Justin Lee Collins, who makes a series called “Bring backā€¦” (in which he tries to find the cast members of a specific show or movie and get them together again), tried to get the A-team together again. Of course George Peppard has already passed, but he did manage to meet the rest of the cast and some even got together for drinks. It really brought back memories and it also showed how old the cast has become.
When remaking the series into a movie it was a logical step to recast the iconic characters, something Mr.T didn’t approve of. Continue reading

My IMDB tens (movie 3): District 9 (2009)

District 9 has impressed me. It’s a sci-fi movie with a very different style and story than your “standard” sci-fi movie. It shows the issues aliens are having, living in houses built from trash and not being accepted by anyone. The movie has been made for a relatively small budget (20 million), but looks great. The movie starts as a documentary, which is very original and it slowly morphs into a normal movie format. Continue reading
