Mia Wasikowska

Mia Wasikowska was born 14 October 1989 in Canberra, Australia. Her parents are photographers. When she was nine she started training as a ballerina, with the goal of becoming a professional dancer. Because an issue with her heel and dissatisfaction with the industry she quit when she was fourteen. She was shy, but after seeing The Piano and A Woman Under the Influence she became inspired. She looked for talent agencies and managed to get invited by one.

Her first role was on the Australian soap All Saints in 2004 and at age 15 she played in her first movie, Suburban Mayhem. Her first US role was in HBO’s drama In Treatment. She followed this by roles in Defiance, Amelia, That Evening Sun. Her first big role was in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Other movies she played in include The Kids Are All Right, Jane Eyre, Restless, Albert Nobbs, Lawless, Only Lovers Left Alive, The Double and Maps to the Stars. Continue reading

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo was born on November 22, 1967 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. During his teen year he lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He wrestled in competitions during his junior high and high school years. He later to moved to L.A., where he took classes at the Stella Adler Conservatory. After co-founding the Orpheus Theatre Company he wrote, directed and acted in various plays while working as a bartender. He played minor roles in various films and thanks to a meeting with Kenneth Lonergan he started collaborating with him and eventually got him a role in You Can Count on Me. Various other movies followed including XX/XY, My Life Without Me, In the Cut, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Collateral besides doing various romcoms. The Many Faces of… Rosamund Pike

It’s funny how an actor sometimes stands out in a specific movie and when you look back at her of his career it’s surprising how many movies you saw her/him in without remembering them. For me this was the case with Rosamund Pike. I have never noticed her until recently seeing her in Gone Girl. Looking back at her career it was shocking to see that I never noticed her in other films.

Rosamund Pike was born 27 January 1979 in Hammersmith, London. Her parents were opera singers, which means they travelled a lot through Europe. When she acted in a production of Romeo and Juliet at the National Youth Theatre (playing Juliet) she was noticed by an agent and it meant the start of her career. She gained experience doing plays and while still studying she started to do various TV shows including A Rather English Marriage, Wives and Daughters and Love in a Cold Climate. She almost considered a different career until she was offered the role of Bond girl in Die Another Day. This kickstarted her movie career and she has acted in various films including The Libertine, Doom, Pride & Prejudice, Fracture, Made in Dagenham, Barney’s Version, Wrath of the Titans, Jack Reacher, The World’s End and Gone Girl. Lee Pace

Lee Pace was born on March 25, 1979 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. His father worked in the oil business which meant he spent several years in Saudi Arabia during his childhood. When they moved to Texas he attended Kling High School in Spring, Texas. He temporarily left school to act at Alley Theatre in Houston in various plays. Next he went to the Drama Division at Julliard School where he was in several other plays. After graduation he continued to act on stage both on and off Broadway. His first movie role was as a transgender woman in Soldier’s Girl which earned him several awards. He played in Tarsem Singh’s The Fall, The Good Shephard, The Twilight Saga: Breakign Dawn, Lincoln, The Hobbit movies and recently in Guardians of the Galaxy. Continue reading

Cameron Diaz was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego. She grew up in Long Beach. She started working as a model at age 16 and did campaigns for Calvin Klein and Levi’s. Her first role was in The Mask opposite of Jim Carrey which immediately launched her career. She did various movies after it and was even going to play in the Mortal Kombat movie but had to pull out because of an injury. She played in A Life Less Ordinary, My Best Friend’s Wedding, There’s Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, Very Bad Things, Charlie’s Angels. She was the voice for Princess Fiona in Shrek. It is always shocking when someone suddenly has passed away and I just woke up with great shock reading that actor Robin Williams has passed away. So I immediately decided to write this post about him and there is not better way to remember him than to create an overview of all his roles. Making the overview I realised how many great movies Robin Williams has acted in. He won an Oscar for his role in Good Will Hunting and through his career acted in both serious roles and comedies. When she was 15 she was diagnosed with a condition in which her spine turned out not to be straight. A chest-to-hips plastic brace straightened it. Kate Beckinsale was born on July 26 in London, England. Her parents were both actors. When she was growing up she already was involved with theatre and writing, winning the WH Smith Young Writers Award twice for both poetry and fiction. As a teenager she suffered from anorexia. At Oxford University she did theater. She didn’t finish university because she decided to focus completely on acting. In 1991 she appeared on TV in Devices and Desires and the TV movie One Against the Wind. She had a role in Much Ado about Nothing. Together with Christian Bale she starred in Prince of Jutland. She did various other films and also appeared in stage plays. Around 1998 she decided to head to the United States. Her first American movie was The Last Days of Disco.
