The alternative ending: Toy Story 3

As I was watching Hanna yesterday (review will be soon) I was a bit surprised by its sudden ending and wished it would be longer. I probably wouldn’t change it, but this got me thinking:

If you could change the ending of a movie, which one would you change and what would your ending be?

It’s a question I will try to answer from time to time. For this first installment my choice is: Toy Story 3, a movie which was in my 2010 top 10

I’m a big fan of the Toy Story movies and the adventures of Buzz and Woody. So I highly enjoyed the third installment in the series. I remember when watching this movie that I absolutely loved it, but if it were up to me I would have changed the ending.

At the end of the movie Andy gives all his toys away to allow another kid to play with them. The toys have a new home and both them and the little girl are happy.

My ending would be quite a bit darker:

Remember the incinerator scene? I thought it was one of the most emotional scenes in the movie and really felt a connection to the toys and the situation they were in. Only I thought that Pixar should have ended the movie there with the toys not being able to escape. They wouldn’t need to show them burning, but just let the credits roll.

Yeah, I know kids would be crying for weeks and it wouldn’t fit Pixar’s image, but it would be just as big a shock as finding out that Darth Vader was Luke’s father. It would make the movie even more memorable and would be discussed for years.

What do you think of this ending and which movie’s ending would you like to change?

  1. HAHA I thought that as well. At the time, through my tears I was longing for them not to die. BUt thought that would have been the perfect stopping point.

    Great idea mate, any others?

    • Nice idea as well, although not people would probably believe it since he already acted all kind before they went into the incenerator. He would not be a bear you could trust 😉
