Battle of the Bad Guys: Round 1 – Hannibal Lecter vs. Keyser Söze

The start of the Battle of the Bad Guys last week has been very interesting and with some of these battles I can’t yet call out the winner. Currently Hans Gruber vs. Bill the Butcher is at the moment at 50%/50%, so for those who have not voted yet, you can still decide who will win.
Of course there are still a lot of bad guys that have to face each other before round two can begin so today I’ve got two new ones. Time to vote again!

Hannibal Lecter

Hannibal Lecter

This cannibalistic serial killer is frightening. A master at psychological games he’s downright scary.

versus

Keyser Söze

A ruthless crimelord in the movie Usual Suspects who would kill anyone that would do something they did wrong. He did the same to people who would have seen him so he would be impossible to catch.

Which bad guy is your favorite?

    • The scary thing though is that you would never know if you met Söze and since he will kill everyone who has seen him you would never realise that was the reason! 😉 Understand your choice for Lector though!

  1. I’m going with Hannibal too. The problem with Keyser Söze is that we don’t really know anything about him. All the impressive things we hear about him (the Turkey episode et all) is just hearsay from Verbal and others. It might be true, or it might all be rumors, either spread by the man himself or by others. All we know is that he’s quite clever and manipulative. Hannibal, on the other hand, we get to experience the viciousness of first-hand. He’s a scary guy.

  2. Hi, Nostra and company:

    I’m going with Keyser Soze.

Was never impressed with either the original Hannibal Lector as written in Tom Harris’s ‘Red Dragon’. Which would become Michael Mann’s ‘Manhunter’. Though Brian Cox owned the role opposite William Petersen’s Will Graham. Nor did I find Harris’s later ‘the Silence Of The Lambs’ that scary or note worthy.

Giving the Lector role to Anthony Hopkins was a slick maneuver that added some class to a slimy, charismatic, psychotic character.

Kevin Spacey’s Keyser Soze radiated style with his slow, clever and meticulous recruitment of Gabriel Byrne, et al. Leading them on a well executed heist. A deal gone bad. Some well planned revenge and a final battle that neatly tied off all the loose ends. Creating a neat, compact story with a surprise ending.

  3. Now I haven’t seen the Usual Suspects – it is on my ‘to watch’ list though, promise! – so I will keep my vote. Hannibal is very, very sinister though. I agree with Jack that Hopkins’ appointment added class to the role.

  4. Although The Usual Suspects was my favouite film of all time for almost a decade, I still went with Hannibal because he would not only kill me, but eat me too … creeeeepy!

  5. I decided to go away and watch them both so it would be fair. And I’ve decided that the wit, charm and utter lack of regret for his doings had to go to lecter. Another reason for lecter is that if you say Hannibal lector to anyone then they know who your talking about. He’s become a very popular and downright evil character.
