The Monday Question: Food in movies!

This week’s question might be quite a strange one, but it’s one based on food in movies. When watching movies there are always scenes of people eating or a character always wanting to eat something specific. When I watched Zombieland one character stood out when it came to food, the one Woody Harrelson was playing. He had an obsession with Twinkies. Since the product ceased production it seemed that the product would never be made anymore and it seemed a case of fiction turned into reality. Although production has begun again that movie made me wonder what Twinkies tasted like. They aren’t sold over here but when I was at the airport last week I saw a box of Twinkies and just had to buy it to find out. Turns out that they aren’t very tasty as all, so I was quite disappointed.

Which movie food has disappointed you when you tried it?

Since today is my birthday I have decided to give myself a week off and enjoy some other things, so don’t expect any other posts this week. Will be back next Monday!

  1. Happy Birthday Nostra. I wish I could answer the question but I’m quite a picky eater. I don’t think I ever ate Twinkies or something like that. I don’t know. I don’t have a very good memory when it comes to these things.

  2. Happy Birthday!

Interesting question. Though not a food, the first thing that comes to mind is Pinot Noir–since it was talked about so highly in “Sidewways”. But that is dependent on the vineyard you bought from.

As for food, I’ll say Ratatouille. After the film and the reaction from the critic I made one. I’m a farily decent cook and have gotten compliments on my cooking, but the ratatoiulles I have made in the end never seemed worth the amount of time it takes to prepare and cook them.

    • Thank you Victor.

Great to hear that one. I don’t drink myself (except for champagne), but I can imagine that that movie can inspire.

I do not think I have ever eaten Ratatouille, but would be interested in trying that out!

  3. ‘Waitress’ and pies. I’ve never been a pie eater, but that movie made them look so good. So I decided to give pie another chance, and I still don’t like it.

    Twinkies are disgusting.

    • You do not like pies? Not even a chocolate one? I make a very good one which convinces anyone who eats it that it’s the best one ever šŸ˜‰

      Twinkies are disgusting indeed šŸ™‚

  4. I’m sorry that your first foray into trying a food mentioned in a movie happened to be Twinkies. If I remember correctly, they are spongy chemicals with a synthetic sugar in the center. I do remember watching “Spirited Away” with a friend who immediately afterwards wanted to eat Chinese food and have a bowl of noodles. Someone else told me that they wanted to visit Mexico because they watched “Tortilla Soup.” The only time that happened to me was with a Beastie Boys song where they mentioned Chateauneuf du Pape.

I’ve inspired a food craving. I’m originally from San Francisco and miss my It’s It Ice Cream Sandwiches. They’re probably not the greatest but I remember them very fondly.

I think I was more fortunate in my food cravings. Happy birthday, Nostra.

    • Yeah, that describes them correctly šŸ˜‰

Nice stories šŸ™‚ Have been to San Francisco once, really liked that city.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, had a great time!

  5. Belated Happy Birthday, Nostra!

Twinkies are definitely an American thing. A hallmark of the Hostess company. And yes. They are coming back to fill supermarket shelves. Though under a different name and not made by ridiculously greedy unions.

Vanilla sponge cake with vanilla cream filling really doesn’t have much flavor besides sweet. Much prefer their chocolate cupcakes.

Here’s an anomaly for fill buffs. One of the staple grocery bag fillers the the Baguette that angles out of the bag’s top before the bag is placed on a counter and emptied.

Has anyone seen the buyer or any friends of the buyer actually eatiting the Baguette?
