Breaking Emotions blogathon: Fear

Mettel Ray has started her Breaking Emotions blogathon and I am happy to join in on the fun. The idea behind this blogathon is that you get two emotions and give examples of them. This time those emotions are fear and awkward. Awkward did not give me any ideas, so I decided to do five about fear. Since I do not watch a lot of horror movies I really had to dig deep in order to complete the list. Please note that the examples contain possible spoilers for the movies.

Gravity
The moment the Russian spaceship gets hit and the debris starts flying around there is a real sense of fear. Not hearing the impact, but seeing everything flying around at high speed you fear the worst for Bullock’s character.

Drag Me to Hell
This is one of the few movies I couldn’t manage to finish. It was not because I thought it was so bad, but because I felt so uncomfortable and scared that I wanted to get out of the experience.

The Shining
This was one of those movies which I had avoided for years. In my head I had made it a very scary movie and feared watching it. When I finally did it turned out not to be scary at all and I did not feel fear, but it is an emotion I always have to think of when it is mentioned.

The Impossible
When the tsunami hits in this movie you experience the fear the characters are having, trying to survive the extreme power of the water and their fear of having lost everyone they care for.

Toy Story of Terror
This was not an emotion I experienced, but one of my daughters did. She was sitting next to me and the moment the iguana jumps through the shower curtain she almost jumped.

  1. Aw, I love that you mention your daughter’s fear. I should have done that, with Toy Story 3. When they put Buzz on demo mode, she screamed and buried her head in my chest. She was terrified!
