The Monday Question: Amazon!

The Monday Question

At the end of last week there was a rumour that Amazon will be introducing a service comparable to what Spotify currently does with music for people who don’t subscribe: You’ll be able to watch movies for free, but supported by ads. They would do this in order to lure people away from Netflix towards their own service, Amazon Prime. I think it is a very interesting development, which potentially could attract a whole lot of people. Watching a couple of ads when watching a movie is something people are already accustomed to when watching them on television, so they will probably won’t mind here either.

What are your thoughts about this rumour?

  1. Hmm, that’d be interesting, but I think it’s something I’d really want to see what they had to offer. I love Netflix, and I really don’t mind paying $8/month. They have so many great options in both TV and movies, that I think we’re almost getting the deal in paying such a small fee for so much. My hubby and I also have Amazon Prime that we use for the free two-day shipping, but we don’t care as much for the streaming service offered.

    • Yeah, I don’t mind paying that amount, but I think that there are a lot of people who don’t want to try it giving some payment information first. This model worked for Spotify, so I guess it could work for movies too.

    • Don’t have any experience with Amazon as the store doesn’t operate here yet, but I guess you have different experiences.

That’s a very long read and only read part, but it is very interesting.

  2. Amazon Prime sounds promising, although I wouldn’t watch if the ads go on for 3-5 minutes. I could live with ads for under a minute every 30 minutes or so.
