My Filmview Top 100 30-21

My apologies for keeping you waiting for the rest of my top 100, but planning to continue the countdown now all the way to my number one pick. This time though the number 30 to 21.

30. Carlito’s Way

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Carlito's Way[/mlprx]
Brian De Palma’s Scarface already made an appearance earlier in this top 100, but also this movie, in which a gangster (Al Pacino) decides to leave his criminal past behind him is a favourite of mine. Not only Pacino is fantastic, but so is Sean Penn as a sneaky lawyer.

29. Home Alone

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Home Alone[/mlprx]
Probably a title which you wouldn’t expect in a top 100 (especially this high), but it is one of those films I can watch endlessly and probably see yearly. One of those perfect Christmas movies.

28. Whiplash

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Whiplash3[/mlprx]
Whiplash is a movie where watching it for the acting alone is enough reason to check it out. In this movie both Miles Teller as J.K.Simmons give one of their best performances. You can feel the emotion spilling out of the screen, supported by strong music and a story about what realising your dreams can do to a person. [My review]

27. Die Hard

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Die Hard[/mlprx]
Although some people consider this a Christmas movie, I don’t. To me it is a pure action film, in which a real everyday man ends up in a situation he can’t control and where he tries to change that. Bruce Willis unfortunately isn’t as good anymore today as he was in this. [My review]

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

26. 300

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]300[/mlprx]
The ultimate movie for men, in which an army of 300 try to defend their town, even though they know the odds are against them. Beautifully realised by Zack Snyder and Gerard Butler is awesome in this.

25. Lost in Translation

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Lost in Translation[/mlprx]
This is a movie which inspired me to go on holiday to Japan. The story about two people (played by Scarlett Johansson and [My review]

24. Donnie Darko

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Donnie Darko[/mlprx]
One of the best “mindfuck” movies in existence, which you’ll think about for days. A young Jake Gyllenhaal plays the somewhat strange Donnie who becomes interested in time travel and who sometimes sees a scary image of a rabbit once in a while. [My review]

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

23. The Prestige

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]The Prestige[/mlprx]
When I think of my favourite Christopher Nolan movies, this is immediately the one which jumps to mind. The story about two magicians (Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale) is tense. I love the world it creates.

[mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”400″]

22. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Kiss Kiss Bang Bang[/mlprx]
Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer shine in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It is totally unpredictable and manages to keep surprising the viewer.

21. Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father

[/mlprx][mlprx effect=”fadeInRight” delay=”450″]Dear Zachary[/mlprx]
If you don’t know this documentary, than I advise you to watch it without reading anything about it. Emotionally a very difficult movie to watch. [My review]

  1. Just that pic is tough to look at on #21. That is one creepy ass image. That one and #25 are the only ones I haven’t seen. Well, technically I haven’t seen Home Alone, either, but I have seen so many bits and pieces of it over the years I’m pretty sure I’ve hit every part of the movie.

Very pleasantly surprised to see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. What a fantastic movie.

  2. I still say this is such an ambitious and commendable project. I simply don’t know how I would approach it. I’ve loved following yours. Maybe someday I will give it a whirl…

    • It was years in the making and I started making the list a long time ago but go stuck. Finally decided that this would be the year I’d finish it. But still have to admit there are moments when I see a title and think I should have included it 🙂

  3. Awesome list and love how the graphics swipe in from the side. So many of these I’ve seen, and gotta say Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is so underrated.

    • Like I said when I started this I was quite surprised by the variety myself as well. Shows I basically have a very broad taste when it comes to films 🙂

  4. I’m all slack-jawed you even attempted to make a list this encompassing, dude. Seriously, well done. Honestly, though, I’ve never been a fan of those odiously silly Home Alone films. Otherwise, nice list. Can’t wait for the final countdown to #1!!!!

    • Hahaha, well sometimes you’ll have to try the impossible don’t you? 😉

I can imagine that Home Alone stands out, but have seen it too many times and enjoyed it so much that I couldn’t leave it out. Countdown will continue the coming week!

  5. Awesome continuation to your list, which I’ve been following ever since you started it. I have been a bit distant from the blogs lately, but I try to keep track of this at least.
Regarding the newest entries, I love your inclusion of Dear Zachary, which will certainly make it if I were to make a list such as this. Certainly a documentary everyone should see. Other inclusions that will likely make it to my own list would be Whiplash (still my favorite from last year), Lost in Translation (easily in my top 50), and Donnie Darko.
