Review The Beauty Inside

How important is you appearance to you? For many people it will be a very important deciding thing, because it plays an important role in the first impression you make on others. It also will influence how you feel about yourself. In the entertainment and fashion industry it seems the only thing you are judged on and where getting older isn’t allowed. But what would happen if you couldn’t do anything about your appearance? What would happen if you woke up inside a different body each day? That’s the reality the main character in this movie, Woo-Jin, faces.

Review The Beauty Inside

Woo-Jin (played by 122 differents actors and actresses) doesn’t know why this is happening to him. He only knows that this started when he was eighteen and was shocked to see another person in the mirror. He now has learned to live with it and makes furniture at home for a living, making sure he doesn’t have to meet other people. He has a huge collection of clothes so he will have the right size available no matter which body he is in. The only people who know about his secret are his mother and best friend. Because he never looks the same he isn’t able to start a relationship because he doesn’t know ho he’d explain it, but when he meets the beautiful Hong E-soo (Han Hyo-joo) he falls in love. Every day he visits her work and each day she is very friendly to the person she sees. He decides to wait for the day that he has a body that looks great and decides not to sleep anymore to stop himself from changing. Will that plan work?

“the movie might be sweet as honey…

The Beauty Inside is a romantic movie with occasional comedic elements, which has been slickly executed. Even thought the movie is over two hours it never feels overly long and the premise isn’t spread too thin. A reason for that is Han Hyo-joo, who manages to convince the viewer that someone who ends up in such a situation struggles with her feelings. Even more impressive is the fact that Woo-Jin, despite the stunning number of actors, really comes across as one character who just happens to change appearance. This is thanks to good editing and having a couple of actors play key moments. The movie might be sweet as honey, but if you are looking for that it is a very enjoyable watch.

  1. Wow, the protagonist is played by 122 different actors and actresses? Interesting and indeed impressive that the film can pull that off in that it comes across as one character who just happens to change appearance.
