Storks (2016) – Review

Review Storks

Regularly I come across movies where my expectations are extremely low. They are usually titles I steer clear from and occasionally might give them a chance once they are out on DVD/VOD. Storks was one of those movies which also didn’t get much marketing. But when the kids had a week off from school one of the things I usually do is to take them to the cinema. The youngest one wanted to see this movie. I hoped, like with a dentist appointment, that it would be quick and painless. I didn’t expect I would enjoy this movie so much.

Review Storks

The story about storks delivering babies turns out to no longer be true. They have changed their business model and now deliver packages for cornernstore.com. The company is run by Hunter (Kelsey Grammer), who is about to appoint his successor. He is thinking of giving the position to Junior (Andy Samberg), but he will only get it if he has fired Tulip (Katie Crown).

Tulip was the last baby to be delivered, but because something went wrong she was raised as an orphan. Junior isn’t able to fire her and gives her a job handling the letters requesting babies (a part of the company which isn’t operational anymore). In the world there is a boy who would like to have a brother and decides to write a letter. Because of that letter a baby is made in the facotry. Junior sees this as a big threat for his future and decides to try and deliver the baby together with Tulip. Turns out that isn’t easy to do.

“might be the funniest comedy I saw this year…”

What follows is an adventure with bizarre moments. There are so many of them that for me this might be the funniest comedy I saw this year, that’s how much I laughed. Not only the interaction between Junior and Tulip is funny, but at one moment a group of wolves show up who are able to form boats, submarines, cars and much more. It is a movie which not only kids will enjoy, but parents as well. It’s about themes like not giving up, family and compassion. The animation part of Warner Bros, Warner Animation Group, has proved with their second movie (the first one was The Lego Movie) that they are as good as the competition.
