P.S. I love you (2007)

P.S. I love you, starring Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank, was an impulse buy as it’s sometimes nice to watch a romantic movie together. Unfortunately the thought that this was a romantic comedy proved to be completely wrong. This movie is the confirmation to not always trust an IMDB score. It scored 6,9 there, but when you check the score on rottentomatoes, you realise that it’s actually very bad with a 23%. I agree completely with this last score.

The movie is about a couple where the husband dies. After his death the woman still receives messages from him, which ask her to do some things. This situation should be the starting point for a romantic comedy, but it fails completely. You are constantly thinking how messed up the situation is while jokes are being made.

If the movie would have been shot as a drama i might have been able to enjoy it, but the formula of romantic comedy that’s being used here is completely wrong. I normally finish every movie that I start, but halfway through we both didn’t feel like watching any further and removed the DVD from the player. Whenever I have a shortage of coaster, this DVD will be the first thing I’ll use for it.

Score: 1

  1. Two good leading actors, but it didn’t save the film. Many friends of mine said it was a harrowing movie but for me it was not touching in any way. + Full of silly jokes.
